Looks like a great place to be DaveGunter

Are you purchasing just the 3.5 acres, or the 40 also?

Shhhh...don't tell my wife! Actually I think some chickens are the next critters to join the herd.

Walk out is in the plans. We'll see how the heat rises from the basement, I don't anticipate a problem heating the place:D, we're putting in electric baseboard just to satisfy the bank, I have no plans on actually using it...kinda silly but hey ya gotta do what ya gotta do...oh and a mini-split in the main living area...for some a/c on the half dozen days a year we might need it or if we travel away from the place for any length of time...doubtful.

Oh yeah, we're paying extra for the "upgraded insulation package" from the modular manufacture, and it's code to insulate the sill and the basement walls.

Oh don't worry, we got em all...and I got my eye on the 40 acre "tree growth" lot to one side of us:cool:

Not to overstate things but I gotta say...I'm not sure this project would have gotten off the ground ifin it weren't for FHC. I grew up on a dairy farm, then when my wife and I married, our first two houses were both what most would consider rural, they were great places to live and raise a family and I've got no complaints...but there was still something missing for me...I just need a lot of my own space to do my own thing, I don't like having to see my neighbors unless I want to, it's not that I don't like people...I just don't like people all of the time. I just dismissed it and lived with it for years because things were "good enough".

Seeing and reading about other FHC members, like RCBS and his beautiful trails in the woods, Shawn Curry and his craftsmanship with his own lumber from his own trees, all of the beautiful gardens and production of your own food, mike bayerl and his Icelandic sheep...and the bees and the maple syrup...oh and there WILL be a "smoker room" SKEETER McCLUSKEY we now have plans for an attached greenhouse because of justdraftn oh and Well Seasoned and his journey to NH and his chickens...but I guess you probably know exactly what I'm talking about;).

Aside from having oatmeal for breakfast I may have to go back to reading the back of the cereal box while eating.

Indeed we know what you are talking about. As for the dairy farm, both my wife and I grew up on dairy farms and now live in the woods. No, we can't see our neighbors except during winter but can't see much of them. We see just a little bit there to know there is a house there. We do have a couple other neighbors 1/4 mile from us but can not see them beyond the hills and trees.

    You'll do fine Dave.

Very cool man! I just recently bought my uncles old house. It's a woodsy, rural area. My lot is only 2.3 acres, but no subdivision! :) Surrounded by all BIG land farming operations mostly but also lots of swamp, wetland, and woods too. It's a beautiful way of life. Excited for you man! I know how excited I was when I spent my first night there in the silence. Not a light to be seen anywhere. Enjoy your new home! Pretty neat getting to build too. See it come along from start to finish. Mine was built a few years...1857. Can only see one little barn light from a neighbor in winter months. Otherwise nothing. Not even when trees are bare. 6 acres of woods between me and the nearest guy. VERY thick woods.

Was out checking progress yesterday, the land clearing guy was there finishing up for the day, we hashed some things out, which trees i want cut and where to pile the logs, nice guy, just him and a helper, seems like a hard way to do things with just his Bombadier and a chipper, turns out he knows some of my family.

    The log inspectors came along

Then we went for a walk on the old logging roads in the timber company land, there must be 10 miles of road like this and bunches of skidder trails, used for snowmobiling now. Maybe I should get some sled dogs and take up mushing.:sherlock:

old logging roads are wonderful to walk. no tripping over stumps and getting brush in the face. Everything looks pretty green there. I love the colour of spring green.

Dave, the more pictures you post, the better I like it! Looks like you could do lots of roaming there and be in the woods while doing it. A winner for sure.

He's ok, still recovering from the double TTA knee surgery back in Feb, he will overdue it if I just let him run esp with the rest of the pack running, and come back with some lameness so I'm still having to limit his activity, Doc said could be 6-12 months for full recovery, just have to watch him and regulate the activity.
