Is it possible to overheat saws? My Husqvarna 545 dies while working the wood pile this morning. I switched to my little 435 and that one died too . Both before I ran a full tank of fuel.

I use e free fuel. .9 gallons to one can of oil.

    Any thoughts?

Are you possibly using winter blend fuel ? That can cause vapor locking.

Don't know about Husky but Stihl has a winter/summer shutter that needs to be switched when air temps rise above 50°. Does Husky have that feature? If you run the saw with the shutter in the winter position during warm weather, the saw could get hot and shut down, if you're lucky and it doesn't blow first. Although I haven't heard of a Stihl blowing for that reason.

Get some fresh gas from a busy service station or try a jug of the pre-mixed alkylate fuel like Husqvarna ETHANOL FREE, High Octane Fuel, Aspen or Trufuel50.

Not heard of this happening. Why do you mix .9 to one can of oil? Why not 1 to 1? That is what it is designed for.

Did you try them again after a full cool down?

I ran 1:1 and blew the 545 piston. Dealer thought I was running it to lean. I decided to go .9 to be safe. I would like to run the Husqvarna mix, but it's to expensive for the amount I use.

Since both saws are affected, my detector says fuel issue of some sort. Have you replaced your filters lately?

Does the 261c have this? I had issues last week while noodling big maple rounds. The saw quit and just wouldn't fire back up. Took it home, pulled the plug to check, put it back in and it fired up fine. Also I probably have winter blend fuel in it.

The Stihl 261c has a winter-summer shutter. Page 25 of the Canadian manual.

It's fuel related. But as they cool they should reatart.

Just to check buy a quart of the canned fuel. It's a cheap way to check. In those small saws a quart should fill each one once.
