I told the boss today that I was changing my schedule starting next week. I normally work 8.5 hour days Mon-Thurs and 6 hours on Friday. I'm going to start working 8 hours Mon-Thurs and take a vacation day on Friday. I'll do that through the end of August. Throw in a sick day here and there and I'm going to be working a lot of 3 day weeks.

Lowes is sending me a check in the mail, not a store credit. I have to say that I have no idea what to buy-it seems like everything is crap for appliances. I wouldnt mind a 10 year appliance but I am seeing a lot of total failures that require replacing after 5 years. But I need to do something this weekend as the sales are on now.

I have lost all faith in Consumer Reports as well. 5 years ago they had my LG as a top buy. They still list this years model as a top pick yet all I see on their own website is how many failures LG are having and how no one can get them fixed because almost no one services them.

Yeah, well CR just got my money to join for a year as I hadnt had the membership in 3-4 years. I joined to get some info on reliable brands to buy but only made me more confused.

According to CR, they say stay away from Whilrpool products (that includes Maytag, Amana and Jenn Air) due tp excessive repairs while almost every brand comparison I see from supposed repair people say Whirlpool is one of the most reliable with GE being a touch more reliable. I asked the supervisor at Lowes Repair Advantage what they see for most service. He told me LG is hardest to get serviced (what a surprise) and the most reliable is GE with Whirlpool just behind them. 2 other reports I have read say the same.

I was shocked to re up at CR and have them say Whirlpool cannot be recommended at all.

I have had issues with 2 GE electric ranges over the past 25 years and wont use them again for ranges. Maybe their fridges are better? The fridge that this LG replaces was GE and still running well at the time of replacement-it was about 18 years old.

I will say that I just read about Whirlpool removing the heater from the defrost cycle and that was causing issues. If I can confirm this, that may sway me away as it does not make sense to not have the heater there for defrost cycle. I havnt been able to find out exactly what they do now for defrost

Kind of long but interesting look at a huge airliner landing in San Francisco. I have never seen a cockpit look like this one-really sleek and cool, all looks to be controlled by computers. I wonder if that is a good thing when stuff goes wrong over the ocean.......

Research is good so long as you dont find yourself in analysis paralysis. I like to sort through negative reviews to see if there are any consistent genetic defects in a product. Those are probably worth stating away from, although nowadays I am not sure they make anything BIFL.

On most purchases I make, I look to Amazon... (if the item is available there),
to read the hundreds of reviews.
I have always got Consumer Report, and do like it, but do not consider it
to be bible... But it is accurate many times.
You just have to be careful... most of the time the highest rated product is
also WAAAY higher in cost to what I am willing to pay..
Ever look at gas grilles??

Most new (last 10 years or so) give out from 5 to 7 years. Whirlpool sucks big time. GE is slightly better. I figure the rest are in between.

I don't think we can go buy what is said in consumer reports. Whomever wines and dines that crew get the best review. Sometimes they are so far off that it is like reading miss information. There are applinance forum to go on. Some have technicians on them.
