Highbeam, what say you about the conversion to the steel cat. how is it holding up. Is it brittle like te oem?
I wore out a ceramic then switched to steel. Wore it out, tried vinegar which got me a few more months, and now back to ceramic. After having both I will stick with ceramic. Cheaper, less likely to clog, just as efficient, just as clean burning. I don’t plan to remove the cat until I replace it so brittleness is of no concern. Burn dry wood and thermal shocks physical damage is nothing to worry about. Quite frankly, I’d be surprised to see oem stick with steel for the newer stoves. Dang things only last 10,000 hours.
sent my steel cat back at the beginning of this burning season...had maybe 8000hrs on it,noticed alot of smoke at the end of last season. so it was pro rated and they gave me $135 credit for the new one which only has this season on it.....i wont be buying another one. it looked mint and glowed when it was really active but would pass lots of smoke on low/med. i sent it back for inspection(credit warranty) asked the guy on the phone what was wrong with it......they said they dont know.im pretty sure i got a idea....maybe not putting enough precious metal on it cause they cost money????? i wont be getting another steel cat from them thats for sure.
