Hit the tree dump today to drop off some leaves and branches.

Walked home with 3 big rounds and 2 medium rounds of this. Oak?

Very heavy and it took care of my chain...time for sharpening.

    Thanks in advance.

Honey Locust that's not real old but starting to get those flat scaly plates on the bark. Its definitely rough on chains, even when green or with a new or super sharp one.

What did you find after splitting some? The bark and heartwood looks wrong for honey locust to me.

The end grain looks oaky to me. Still questioning the bark. The heartwood of locust is a salmon pink color and when split looks like a million splinters across the face, for when you split some.

Now that I look at it on different screen the color is a bit off, more like a Red Elm.No big medullary rays like with the Oaks though

Looks like a young version of a tree we we're tryin to ID a little while ago. The bark is tighter on your stuff but can is often the case with younger trees. Im thinking the stuff i've got is some type of gum maybe? These logs are 20-24" dia and just about smoked my chain after cuttin one log. Heavy stuff too!

I second that Red Elm.... haven't split much green easily 99% over the years was long dead stuff. But that sure looks identical to some green stuff I had a couple years back.
