Very hard and very dense but the straight grained rounds will split very easy. Almost pop open. If there's a knot...you'll want a hydraulic splitter...
I did, but it's been dead since I bought the house, bark was getting black and falling off. I believe I took a pic of it I'll see if I can dig up!
If it was dead you probably couldn't tell, but quite often pin oaks will have a lot of lower branches. Many of them growing straight down to the ground. If it was a yard tree, the lower branches were probably trimmed off because they are really ugly. Like this one
