No more lazy evenings by the fire for Charlie! It's all about open windows and birds and squirrels on the feeders:)[IMG]

He looks just like our first chihuahua Tagalong
I think he was inbred as he had 3 toes.
We took him as a favor of the "breeders" who had lost their home in the mortgage collapse.
He would only take to women- first and only dog I've ever owned that was petrified of men and never warmed up to me.

Yesterday we took our Bella, Border collie in to get spayed. Man, I hated to do it and was nearly in tears but it was for the best in our house hold. We didn't have any plans in breeding her and with two "intact" male Corgis in the house, it would have only led to a complete $#!T storm down the line, not to mention we didn't need Border corgis... She is recovering fine, a little slow but still a bit out of it. She was operated on at about 0900 yesterday, we got her home here at 5:00 pm. She was just over 6 months and we asked a dozen people their thoughts and of course we got a dozen opinions but the Dr. seemed to think it was best. DSCN2994.JPG

Good job making sure that there are no unwanted puppies. I have no idea why people have a hard time with the spay/neuter idea for their animals, heck I even got myself spayed. Anyway, you got it done despite your dislike of the notion

It's the phobia you hear that, "it will change them, They'll get fat, bad for them in the long run, other disease risks" and so on... My own feelings are, why do something that is really not natural except in a life or death situation. I guess I just feel, I wouldn't have wanted to operated on unless completely necessary. I "completely do" understand why and what we did it for. And the absolute LAST thing I/we need to do is take care of puppies and make sure they get good homes etc... I still can't help feeling bad about it.:( Maybe I'm just getting to be a fat softy now that I've retired.

It's kind of a no-brainer with cats. Although expensive for females. funny-cat-meme.jpg

Good for you to make that decision. We also have our males neutered as it eliminates a lot of controversy and indiscriminate marking of territory.

It can be a hard decision. I was going to let my papered labs breed, but my wife was having multiple surgeries, I was working part time, so no time to make sure thing went right. I would never have spent all that money getting all the paperwork done had I known I wasn't going to be having pups. No unwanted puppies up in Maine. Hundreds of dogs come into this state to be adopted out. You can sell a mix breed pup for $300-$400. Some folks buy them sight unseen. Puppies are a lot of work, lots of state regs if you are selling them. Lots of granola folks who will condemn anyone who is selling pups.

Did you know fixed animals live longer? Both spay and neuter. Prostate/testicular and uterine/mammary cancer kills more dogs than known, (ya, cause of death looked into the majority of the time). Besides, you don't need other dogs breaking in through screen doors or windows when she goes into heat. You did the right thing imho:)

BS on fat and lazy, don't gorge your pet and they won't get fat. Period. (ok, unless they get a medical condition like low thyroid--but even those can be treated with medicine). The risk of spleen cancer on older spayed dogs is less than the the risks of of other organs in intact females.

And lets not forget the feminine napkin devices for when she is in heat, what PITA.

I understand WW and Thanks, your right. I weighed it all out prior too... And asked the hundred questions to the Doctor. It seems some "breeders" don't like to spay early and one person I spoke to said just the opposite, that taking the ovaries out that early can "promote" health problems and certain cancers.:picard:. I went by my gut feeling and the Doctors recommendation and as I said, It would have been a bad situation all the way around if we didn't, I was just sad to do it.
