We had a box elder come down at the cottage a couple weeks ago in the last windstorm. Fortunately it didn’t hit the cottage; but unfortunately, it fell in the lake.

It needed to come down anyway, but this didn’t exactly save me any time. We got a load of new shore armor stones and it was growing right out of the current beach, so it couldn’t stay.

I gotta admit it was kinda fun figuring out the best way to fish it out of the lake.

There was also this black locust. I brought a load of that home. Got all the brushed burned as well, plus a lot of driftwood.

Having a truck, rope, and wide open yard sure does help with the effort.

    Nice job.

Nice Shawn. I'll bet the breeze off the lake is a bit on the chilly side now!

Don’t forget the pulley! That stump was in just the right spot for a straight-on pull too.

It was coming right off the lake too, and it was chilly, especially this morning! The brush fire was just the ticket today. :fire:

With the temps we have today, and stiff lake breeze, :shiver:

There was quite a bit of chop to that water today.

I went firewood fishin today too...was dropping 4 dead Elms next to a creek...the last one was leaning the wrong way (North), but just a little...the wind was blowing in the direction I wanted it to go (South)...so I decided to try it, worse case scenario it goes the other way and I pull it back across the creek with the truck...I made a couple cuts, and then it cracked a bit and slowly leaned the wrong way. So I stood back to contemplate my options...while I was standing there thinking, a little gust of wind came from the West...didn't go North or South...went East...right into the creek! I hadn't thought of that option! :picard:Took me a good half an hour to get it back up onto dry land due to the creek bank being 4' straight down...and I ended up getting wet feet...was trying to stand on the wet log...yup, guess its a slippery Elm!

Just goes to prove, there are always options that people don't often consider.

Sometimes they can be good options missed..
    And at other times. :doh::hair:

Well, I was supposed to be on the, “you need to work on your current hoard” 12-step recovery, but I just can’t help myself... :emb: Seems like a waste to burn that locust in the campfire so...

The box elder is staying. I should have probably left the locust too cause if we run out of firewood at the cottage, that just means I have to raid my own stacks.

But I think we’ve got enough to keep us going for a while... :D Course Eric VW would probably see that as a challenge... :fire:

LOL.. I've been to Erie and Ontario a few times where I wouldn't think of approaching the shoreline. :loco:

I'm quite happy being 2 hrs south of the waterline. ;)

Nice work in a beautiful place. :salute:

Having said that, I would never expend that much time and energy on box elder, unless it fell in my favorite fishin' hole.
