I have vacation and sick time. I'm trying to use up my sick time (480 hours) before I retire. I was up front with my boss and told her my plan, which she had no problem with. She warned me that personnel might come down on me for doing it, though. They want people to get Dr. approval for FLMA. So I'm going to start testing the water and see if they react. I called out yesterday and enjoyed a beautiful day. This AM I got up and was sick as a dog so I was out today as well. I have to go in tomorrow because I don't want to deal with going to the Dr. to get a note to return to work.

Actually that hasn't happened. What has happened is people come to work sick less often. Why might that be you ask? Well, because people were using up their sick time for snow days (kids don't go to school), to take care of sick kids/parents etc. but couldn't use their vacation time as sick days.

Oh, and another thing the company did (which definitely helps), is make it a company benefit that people are paid during our company shut down between Christmas and New Years - people no longer have to save up vacation time for that . That gives 3-4 more days to every person. Now if I could just get to actually take vacation day every once in a while (I don't get sick), that would be awesome :emb:

I started getting it at 45. This year they finally caught on to the fact I changed my legal name on 1/2/15.

I would LOVE a shut down. Leave for a week and dont come back to an extra weeks worth of work.

AND it would mean that I actually take time off. Wait, its end of year so there would be something that I need to get done and go in during the shutdown.....for no extra pay because I am salary :hair:

About 3 years... That's right on the AARP schedule. Maybe fast, even. :salute:

Congrats Grandpa! And of course to Mom & Dad (when he wakes up) & Family. Happy Day! :handshake:

Start training him young - he'll be hauling bags of pellets for you in no time.

Look at artc - he's got Landon setting up the display, & running the pellet show now.

One of the good things about the FTO (or PTO, depending on your employer) is that when you retire,
it is all yours.. it isn't a use or lose option... At least it was where I worked. When I left, I got all of my
FTO (flexible time off) dollars... Which was substantial, as I too, hardly ever took time off..

I got quite a bit of pocket change from 3 jobs due to accumulated sick and vacation time back in the day.

Not so with the good ol' State of Maine. 240 hours, 6 weeks, will be put towards my longevity. That won't increase my retirement $ enough to buy a beer, or even a cup of coffee. It's much more valuable to me if I can use it.
