In my time here, Ive found the most repetitive yet useful item that is technically technology here is the moisture meter. Reasons: 1: I will aquire wood that I have no idea how long it has been seasoning. 2:its in long beam like lengths and I take a cut length to test. Oh Well being that this thing is larger than my cell phone yet I seem to have left my previous 2....outside to the point where rain ruined them... this is a review for moisture meters in general and a bit of a rant. Don’t leave these damm things outside! I would have only wished that this thing would at least be sealed to a point where it doesn’t have to fail just by it being left outside in a bit of rain but not like weeks of torrential downpour. After splitting splits I admit I leave stuff like this around but not my phone. Go figure. Its a tool but I figured that tools like this shouldn’t be too hard to water tight a bit.
Hahah I had the very same thought. Oxymoronic that is but at least it could be more resistant to rain.
Electronics and moisture usually don't mix well... We put a lot of control panels outside and they all have stainless steel enclosures with rubber seals. You wouldn't believe how many of them get water in them. Not just rain, but condensation that builds up over time...
Yeah. I wondered if spraying that stuff that waterproofs clothes might help? I know this sounds like double talk but maybe sealing the plastic parts with that stuff and maybe using a brush? I don’t intend to leave it outside but at 30 bucks a pop ive already reached $100 here and gotta think the company could have tried some rubber housing. I looked at the same brand but different kind of meter it was pin less and looked like it had more to it than the pins one ive got now. I'm just afraid that wouldn’t produce an accurate reading for firewood but I’ve never tried them so I don’t know.
Heh this thing needs its own homing beacon. But seriously I forget this thing a lot because it seriously just has one purpose. I split a couple things, test then set it down. Sooner or later I forget I even used it because it was a long day out and then I’ll get lucky if i find it at night before bed. Its like leaving those seat cushions out in a rain then you sit on it the next day...
Try putting it in a sandwich baggie with just the two prongs poking out. I would imagine it would still be very usable. Or some Reynolds Wrap. Might be enough protection for when it accidentally gets left outside. Just a thought. Maybe it won’t work at all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
