Hey that is awesome, I have a birthday along with a guy named StihlGuy. I do not know him, but based 100% on his username, I am honored.

I tried picking up sticks in my field yesterday, and got 5 trailer loads of them picked up, but there are areas just littered with sticks from the logging done this winter.

This is not logger-bashing despite the guy stealing my wood. He did a really good job on the actual logging job, and though the logging yard is a mess too, it is to be expected. That is on me to clean up for sure. A logger has to have a yard and a nice big field is a good place to put one.

BUT...instead of coming out of the woods and going around the parameter of the field like I did for 2 years, he cut right straight across. Then when it got squishy he asked "what to do?" I said, "go around the edge of the field!!"

So now in order to get hay off the field I got to pick up sticks off probably 5 acres, and picking each stick up by hand is a pain. So I built a Rock and Stick rake to make it easier. That is what I am doing today.

Had a good size maple at the end of the driveway that was showing dead at the top of one of the two trunks. At the bottom, where the two joined, the bark fell off this spring. The wood there was very gray, not rotted. With the grand kids always playing in that area, and cars frequently parked close by, I opted to have it taken down. My oldest son burns wood for his heat. He came Sunday and brought two saws and some rope. He and my younger son tied it off and put some pull on the first part of the tree. It came came down with a thunder. then they went for the second trunk. It had a lean to it with limbs all the wrong way. They tied that one off and down it went. They cut it up and hauled off the mess. He got 2 pickup loads and a third from it. (not split yet.) I'm not good at guessing how much that is but I would think at least a cord. the sawed off base is at least over two feet wide. That tree was there when we carved out the road, driveway and build our home back in 1975. Just amazing how large the trees have grown around here. Seems we have to take one down every few years because they are threatening. Grateful for my sons willingness to help out.

In order to hold onto my man-card I have renamed a few household items.

    Vacuum: House Combine
Broom: Ex-Wife vehicle (as in, "Hey can you go in the pantry and hand my the ex-wife vehicle?")

Here are some pics of the ice and ice out. the lake is free and clear now! (and some deer and the fire pit) The 3rd, 4th, and 5th pic shows how the ice honeycombs and then falls apart.

Went to a new doctor, out lived the old one, today. Not actually a clean bill of heath, but should live to see the sunrise.
I was going to plant beets and beans. Had a devil of a time getting the hydraulics on the tiller attachment hooked up on the mini-steer. Finally got it.
Just got to the garden and made 4 passes with the tiller when my grandson came out and started to mow. One heck of a sound. He hit a 2" dia. piece of a limb. He said he didn't see it. Came back up to the work shop and instructed him on how to remove the deck and take the blades off. You breaky, you fixy. We found one of the 4 ears that hold the blade spindle on broke on 2 of the 3 spindles. Off to Glenn's Glens Surplus, The Shelby Mall tomorrow for parts. Hope I can get out of there with my saving account still in tack.  It is a real manly store and a big money grabber.
I did finally get a row of beets and 2 rows of beans planted after supper.

I put out the humming bird feeder today, and we've already had a male Ruby throated Hummer stop by twice in less than a half hour of putting it up. Nice!

Dropped this ^ ^ ^ puppy today...bigger than I thought it was. 16" at the top where it broke off...25" at stump height...made (25) 20" long rounds...most of which are still laying there...the truck was full with just cleaning up the top limbs/branches.
This tree has been dead standing for 4-5 years...I was surprised to find that is was starting to get a little punky. I'm not sure if it is a Red or White Oak...there are both there. Lots of large wood pecker holes in it...some of them looked like someone just took a 1" spade bit and drilled in 3-4"...they were that perfectly round and flat on the bottom...caught my attention!
Need to get y'all some pics when I get the next load...always forget to take pics!
Mu Shu 660 got almost a whole tank run though 'er on this job...braaaap! (and I forgot my earplugs...ugg :picard: :startled:)
