I got a call from a CL ad I had out wanting free wood either delivered from tree services or I would pick up if it was easy access for the truck/trailer. The guy said he "had a few acres with a few trees cut". His bro was supposed to split it all and sell it last year and that never panned out. Wood was free-just come get it. He lives about 12 minutes from my house.

Well, I went yesterday-in the rain no less. I keep my appointments, need wood, and didnt want someone else getting to it. Holy wood motherload!!! He had at least 15 very mature ash dropped and bucked due to EAB. There's gotta be 10+ cords here very easily! Thats at least 4 years of wood for me! I can back right up to all the stacks too! I only grabbed one load due to the rain but set another appointment to come back Saturday with more trucks and people.

Sorry, no pics. :( I didnt want him to think I was too crazy as he walked me around the place. Im sure I was already drooling. Ill shoot a few on Saturday. :tree:

I guess it's now time to see exactly how much wood my 0.14 acre lot will hold!

That is an excellent score for sure.

Mind if I ask how you worded the CL ad? I've been thinking about doing the same thing here but wasn't exactly sure how to word the ad so I don't sound crazy or get bashed with a bunch of BS replies.

I was actually asking for tree service wood delivered and offered to pay or trade ammo. I didnt even try to"jazz it up". Basically, I just got lucky as h3ll.

    Here is the actual ad.

    Wanted: Firewood split or unsplit

I'm looking for 2 cords (6 ricks) of green wood for next winter. No oak, softwood, or rot. I can ID trees by bark in a flash so dont try pulling any BS on me. MUST be 18" or less-I prefer 16". Delivered and dumped at my house is fine. No stacking, no BS. Cash $ or trade ammo for wood. Tree guys, I WILL take wood that is not split but be reasonable on your price.

    Nice, right to the point.

Did you just post in the wanted section or one of the other sections as well? The wanted section around here isn't used very much is why I ask.

Yup, wanted section. Around here its mostly people wanting things for free (e-begging). You know...the kinda guy who wants a perfect condition front loading washer and dryer set but has no $ and also wants it delivered.

Great score! I had something similar last spring, probably 3 years' worth for me, but it was no where NEAR that easy to get to. I've still never burned any ash, but sounds like the perfect wood for you if you've got limited space.

Must be some HUGE trees to be near a cord a tree! The usual wood I cut is probably 8-10 trees to a cord.

I figure a 14" ash here, will yield a half cord, plus or minus.
