    It was my wife's doing. We painted the grout very sloppy white, then she used mortar mixed pretty thin. Applied with her gloved hand. She used a sponge to "get the effect". its called "German Schmear" thanks to Pinterest

    I don't think it is the Pot belly Design so much as it was a cheap import. Please do not be affronted by that, I had a cheap Vogelzang stove sold under the false name US Stove Company which is owned by the Chinese, and it was horrible at burning wood or coal. I fixed it, but it took a lot of work. Basically drilling and pop riveting stove gasket material everywhere, and getting it to be airtight.

    Now that I have a 1893 pot bellied stove, without doing that it burns wood and coal really well. I plan on making it air tight this summer, but it worked well as is.

    Night and day between the two stoves.
