I’m north of Lockport, about 5 miles from the lake. Head west on 18 for about an hour and you’re basically there.
Oh yes! Even my wife, who does not run a saw has commented when a neighbor was cutting. She asked, "Don't they ever sharpen their saws?" Says I, "Yes, they did last year so it should still be okay."
It was 77 degrees and sunny today on my way home from work. To think, I almost didn’t get started on this project because it was snowing Sunday morning. Got the last trailer load from this pile cut and split. Should be able to finish up the stacking easily tomorrow.
A very good and interesting post. I too have seen sparks cutting BL, I spent time looking for the nail.
The locust bug must be contagious! Went to our camp Sunday and there was a bunch of it uprooted! 10 trees total all in the 60’ range and that was just the locust! I was there to hunt but couldn’t resist playing a little. Shawn Curry i just need you to bring that fiskars! and your crib building skills
Nice looking saw in that one picture Shawn but perhaps I should warn you like I was warned at the gtg. The bar is upside down. Folks told me that you get 10% less power that way.
Windy but warm today again. Got everything stacked but fell a little short of a full cord. Topping it off won’t be an issue, as there’s probably another cord of locust yet to clean up back there. There’s a pile of slab, some 16 footers, another mixed log pile about 1/2 locust, plus all the log piles are themselves stacked on top of locust poles. It’s almost like someone has been obsessively hoarding firewood for years back here...
Man everyone is getting them some black locust. These things just like to fall over. At least they replenish the colony quickly . I cut a large Ash limb ~ 12" at the end and collected the black locust pile i worked on last month . Basically i just moved it from the top of the hill to the bottom...wont be going to the top anymore with everything greened up and snakes/ticks out.
I can see some when I zoom in on the branches. Now Moparguy ’s locust on the other hand, looks more like chestnut oak to me in that pic.
Don’t know about you but my granny was a tough S O B and taught me everything I know about chain knots! Actually just a wrap around my pintle/ball hitch with the hook back on the chain.
My wife found a Deer Tick crawling up her arm yesterday, first one of the year. We know there will many more. Thankfully we don't have snakes to worry about, the only poisonous snake in NH is the endangered and extremely rare Timber Rattlesnake. The state won't even say where they know the few colonies are.
Nah its definitely locust. I wish i would get a Chestnut oak. There's not many oak around compared to everything else. Here's the locust before the move downhill.
