Looks kind of like cherry to me, or at least some other fruit tree if not that? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
That is a DANGED BRIGHT sapwood, for sure! As brenndatomu pointed out in another post....I might be off my game....come to think of it, Chaz called me out for a slow lob over the plate too... wtf is wrong with me....
I am with yall too . I noticed the white sapwood, and the oddly colored darker heart. Which is why I put the comment about some other fruit tree if not cherry. I do think it's a very good chance it's in the Rosaceae Family.
Don't know but, the few Apples that I have split didn't split that straight. I could be in the cherry court though.
We may have it in the very tip in the appalachain foot hills but that's a totally different forest composition than where I live. Just looked at a range map. It goes right to our northern border in the moutains. Except there is a very small island of it in the state that looks like it's in York County which is to the east of Spartanburg. Very random small island of it, but basically we don't have it.
It looks like the wood is ring-porous, so that would rule out cherry. The color is close to red elm but the bark is wrong. Given your location and the color I’m guessing it’s some kind of hickory but that’s a wild guess.
It looks like plum bark kind of, I think it has darker heart too, I cut very little of it???for obvious reasons. Ours down here that has the little plums is chickisaw plum
