Maybe main jet is open too much if fuel coming out of muffler. I have an old wheelhorse where at one point had fuel coming out of air filter when turning over for extended periods, and/or running for long time. ended up having to adjust carb per manufacturers specs and found main jet not to be adjusted properly. I know very little of carbs so it took me a while to fine tune it but all seems great now. I’m sure an engine manual can be downloaded indicating how to adjust carb
I take it this engine has an auto compression release...awful low compression otherwise. If it is flooded, shut the fuel valve off and open the throttle wide open, crank it a bit, see what happens. Just because its new doesn't mean its not fouled...and sometimes once they are fouled, they are junk permanently....can't clean 'em and make it work. Just FYI, this is the same plug that looks like its fine outside the cylinder sometimes too...I've seen it hundreds of times. Customers tend to be "pizzed" when they bring their XYZ whatever into the shop and all we do is replace their fairly new plug to get it running
Yes however I replaced that already with a new old stock one off eBay. It failed the day after I brought the mower home. I suppose I should check it out again I hadn’t thought of that.
Honda GX engines (mostly what I worked with when I was in a shop) get ornery and will backfire and cough if the exhaust clearance is too tight.
I think I have it solved..... It's broken I've been watching some older JD's on Craigslist as they have a good reputation, but I guess like everything they do breakdown. I hope you get it going.
Ol found the issue finally what a pita... I took the fuel pump apart and walla crap in it. Now when it’s running there’s a LOT of white smoke coming out the exhaust time to check the valves
Definite missfire now I’ll have to adjust the timing for sure it’s not bad but it’s enough that it won’t stay idling at low rpm
Hmm...timing? Was it messed with before? I would lean more toward the idle circuit in the carb being crapped up with the same stuff that was in the fuel pump...
Cleaned the carb no difference at all still runs but it’s not even Valve looks bent too I ordered another one.
Cleaned it like as in "it looks purty now" or as in pulled the jet(s), mixture screw, etc and verified that the internal passages are open? Just asking...cleaning the carb means different things to different people... That bent valve would have something to do with that miserable compression reading I bet...so the valve lash adjustment was way off too then, right?
