Sometimes I go into the woods....just to go in the woods. Saw a Rose-breasted Grosbeak a couple weeks ago while I was 'taking a break' from hunting for morel mushrooms, sitting on a log. Didn't find any mushrooms....didn't mind. It was a beautiful afternoon in the woods.
Very comfortable, but alas it was dumped in the park like the tonnes of litter that goes with it. Humans are inherently stupid when it comes to crapping in their own environs BB
Unfortunately extremely true. I live outside of town, very rural, and it's disturbing when coming home or driving to work and the otherwise nice scenery is marred by beer and soda cans, pizza boxes, tires, you name it. I can't recall how many times I've taken the ATV and cart down to the end of the road picking up garbage. Some of my neighbors do it as well.
I cleaned road frontage in front of my property once. Ended up with 9 contractor bags full of mostly beer bottles and cans (about 1/4 mile worth of road, one side). 6 months later, could not tell I had done it, so I gave up. It's sad that people are unable to manage their own waste.
Some people are just pigs and DNGAF. I keep my 400 feet of frontage picked up. The booze bottles and cans is almost understandable - get caught with an empty or opened booze container in the car here and it'll cost ya, but lunch and snack sacks from fast food joints tossed out the window is just plain pigs. Paper is no BFD - it decomposes, but most plastic takes forever and some can even be recycled. There is no excuse. Keep a little garbage bag in the car and be a mature responsible human being for once in your life. /rant
My refuse in the truck goes on the floorboard until I decide it's looking too messy, then I transfer it to a trash can at home or at the gas station. I have randomly confronted people that I have witnessed littering. Some are embarrassed, some DGAF, ALL know its wrong.
