I just learned of that myself on this forum a couple of weeks ago. Then I felt like an idiot when I asked during the test drive why it didn't have the D, 1, 2, 3 gear selections. He said that it had a Manual mode - sure enough I looked and it has a P, R, D & M. If you put it in M, you can manually shift thru 3 gears using a little button on the gear shifter. I think this also has a hill decent control mode. Both of those will help during snowy weather driving.

Nice Pics Will - sucks that the weather sucks though. :( Still shoulder season here, at least for the next few weeks. Don't want to be burning into June again. :headbang:

Weather here was better - finished the front, side, and back yard raking/dethatching today. Betsy finished weeding the Garden beds today, she's a trooper! And all before Black Fly season. Must have moved 4 tons of yard / garden debris over the past few days, I'll be paying for that later. Beer Helps. :coldone:

Betsy and Natalie are going Plant Shopping tomorrow, Ladies Day out. I'm off the hook ! At least for the 1st round. :D

Which is good, way stacked up on IT work, and it's gonna take most of the day doing runs to the town Dump to get rid of all the shiz that's accumulated in the storage shed over the past few years. With Emily graduating/coming home from college in a few weeks, really need the room now. (Says: what room.) :picard:

B - congrats on the new wheels (!), now you can stack pellet bags out -both- of the Moon roofs.

STB, Luney, Doggy, and Snowy - I hope you all feel better, it's tough being hurt & sore this time of year. Smoothies help though. And Ibuprofen, at least here. I shoulda bought that stock, I'd be rich by now.

Now that I look and feel like an earthworm - time for a shower, and back to work.

Have a Fun evening all. :handshake:

Because you are still mesmerized with all the new gadgets and switches you can play with, in that really sharp looking vehicle ?
You're a smart lady for trading in the other Explorer, sounded like it needed a lot of work. And with your commute - having a safe vehicle is a necessity.

I have always thought that maintaining two vehicles to save wear and tear on one or get better mileage was a loosing proposition. Insurance and maintenance more than eats any savings. So I'm saying think about ditching the other vehicle boogieb

My truck has it as well. I have a 6 speed auto so I have 6 gears to play with in manual. My truck is slow to downshift in auto so I use it a lot on back roads and in town. Fun to play with.

    Congrats on the new toy.

Don't forget....in winter snow, you can put it in M, then click up to "2", and it will still pull away from a stop....less wheelspin in slippery conditions. Try it next time you drive it.

Actually not trying to save gas or wear and tear, I need the Focus as a back up, and that is why I got it. I still remember having to ride the bike to get to work in late November, on frosty roads (talk about butt pucker when you put your feet down and they start sliding out from under you) and walking anywhere within a 5 mile radius of home when the Jeep tanked its transmission. That will never happen again. Even if the truck has to go into the shop for some reason, I can go home and still have a vehicle to do whatever I want. If I had had it when the Jeep tanked, I wouldn't have had to make an emergency buy of the 2004 Explorer. Insurance is about $100 per year and I enjoy driving the manual transmission during the summer.

Do I spend more having two vehicles? Absolutely. But the peace of mind is priceless when you got no one else around.

Yeah, I remember. May have to with the tires that are on it (we'll see). I usually run fairly aggressive tires so don't have issues getting started. My biggest worry is coming down the mountain with slick, windy roads - that is where I think it will come in the most handy.
