    I strongly suspect you are right. He has always been so good with other dogs and people, never the slighted sign of aggression or even grumbeling. We have a vet appointment for tomorrow.

    Truth be told, bocefus78, I didn't train any of these guys. They all kind of showed up and stayed and seemed to get along amazingly well. We just hung out together and they learned from being around me. I require for them to be house trained and not destroy things and also not to steal food, from me or each other. House training has never really been a problem for me since doggy doors are great. Destroying things was a little harder for Pippa but she is pretty good about it now. Max and Lucy never did anything annoying inside. Max wanted to be with us but still have his freedom on his own terms, he always jumped the fence until he hurt his legs. But here recently he jumped again. Teddy still has to learn not to dismantle my shed. Have to be very careful with him though so he doesn't crawl back into his shell, he scares easily. Neo is a typical pup, fairly big guy, lanky and uncoordinated. However, even now i sometimes hear a slight growl from him, he used to do that when he was with us in the cabin and the girls wanted to go past him. I assumed he was insecure and we were still working on that when all this circus broke out. He now comes running to the fence again without showing fear of Max and would so much like to come into the woods with us.
    Max goes with me and just ignores the dogs in the fence. Max won't come when called never has, he makes a real point out of it. He looks at you to let you know he heard you but isn't coming yet and then walks off or lies down or does whatever he was going to do. It didn't worry me because he seemed so very gentle. When he wants to come in he just patiently lies somewhere close by and waits until i ask him. For some reason i have never been able to get across to him that he could call me. Even tried to teach him to use a door bell but he never used it.
    In the past all my dogs went through regular training. Honestly "total recall" is the hardest to teach of all the commands. "leave it" I always found the easiest. Recall works fine until the day when something happens they cannot resist and unless you truly train for that in a hunting or other similar situation where they really don't want to obey and you can reinforce it, it will never really be "total recall".
    I fear i would have to break Max's spirit if i would force that on him. Honestly, i think he would just leave and never come back.

    I doubt that. He knows where is plate is full and you show him love.
    Should either of those things be denied, he might run off, but even then it is doubtful. When he get trained, you really are doing him a favor. It puts an order to things. That is so natural for pack animals. They want to please, and they want the recognition that you are pleased with them. I don't think that training a dog can be confused with being mean or cruel.

    That look is him telling you that you don't run the show. He does. And he's obviously not gentle attacking pack members.

    Max=alpha
    Lucy= not alpha

    things will never get better until he understands he's not the alpha.

    Training will put him in his place. And he needs shown his place, from the sounds of things, very firmly. If you dont, you aren't helping the pack out. His aggressiveness can very easily and probably will get worse if not put in check.

    What is it with Labs and vacuums? The only dog I had that enjoyed, or would even let me, vacuuming was a Lab/Samoyed mix. Not that my other dogs were scared of the vacuum, they just didn't want it as a grooming aid. Sampson though, he just loved it.

    All three of our Yellow Labs enjoyed the vacuum. The Chocolate, not so much, but he had really short hair and was not a problem to clean up after. Very little shedding.

    She is awesome. We were able to treat her Lyme condition and she reads clear on her latest test. Wife has been training her in scent detection work and she is now proficient in 2 different scents. Tracking training will be resuming once decent weather finally sets in. Highly intelligent, quick to learn and loves to work.
