well last night we had enough rain to fill your pond, raining here on and off for 4 weeks and more,my shed had water in .came in under the door.
didn't know about the leech thing. i havent had a problem with them in any other pond ive swam in. so we will see!
Nephews last went in swamp, doing flips off 5 foot culvert. Younger one came out with about a dozen leeches some 'beneath his bathers'. Older brother snapped some pics. Which I of course confiscated. 6 years later, he will bring his girlfriend up for spring bbq, and being a good uncle I will of course have and mention said evidence.
That is exactly what us uncles are for! Before my niece got married, she had several boyfriends. I started referring to them as Mr March, April. ..etc, in front of my niece and current boyfriend. I got such the look - mission accomplished! Once she was dating her future husband, he went from being Mr month, to Mr season. IE: Mr spring. It's still talked about you this day, 18+ yrs after being married. Sent from my SM-T280 using Tapatalk
Awesome! That water in there is probably mostly surface run off. Clay has an incredibly slow permeability rate. But the water from the higher ground will eventually get in there!
Yup, we've had 3" in the last 20 hours...and the ground was just starting to dry a little from the last flooding rainstorm less than 2 weeks ago...water everywhere!!
Question for any knowledged pond owners. Would it be a bad idea to divert downspout and french drain run off into a pond?
There you go, another project for you. Sure the horses would like their own pond. Get that scoop fixed and get digging!
I have to finish the barn. Then finish my trails through the woods! Then make another pasture back at the camp(luckily that one is already clear. Just have to fence it in.) And then ...
There may be erosion concerns unless you could divert on a hard surface or through a pipe or tubing. People use rain barrels in conjunction with downspouts all the time to collect water for garden watering so I wouldn’t think there would be an I’ll effect from using roof water.
when the pond is full, and plants start growing it will look nice, have your breakfast over looking the pond, thats what my mate does looking for the ducks to go down.
All is in drain tile that dumps out into my field. Half from house is asphault shingles and the shop is tin.
So just a little update to this...we ended up at about 3.5" total as of this morning...all in about 36 hrs or a lil less...no empty ponds here!
