Walking can add minutes to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months alive in a nursing home at $4,500 per month. My grandpa started walking five miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old and we have no idea where the hell he is. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me. The only reason I would take up walking is so that I could hear heavy breathing again. I have to walk early in the morning, before my brain figures out what I'm doing...
Right now, my walking routine consists of several trips to the coffee maker every morning. I need the coffee so I have the energy to go get the coffee. Vicious circle.
This reminds me of the anti drug commercial on TV years ago of a guy doing coke in a bathroom stall saying "I do coke so I can do more work.....I do more work so I can do more coke" over and over.
Brings to mind the old adage: never criticize anyone until you've walked a mile in their shoes. The reason this works is because when you do make the criticism, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.
Or if you added up all the time spent in a gym staying physically fit, you would spend over 7 years and all that work extends your life by 5 years.
