It's now officially the first day of the shoulder season in south east Australia.
The leaves on my oak tree are turning red and falling.

I woke up today to the sound of rain. Now to most of you hoarders this may not be unusual but we have only had two days with significant rain this year.

Two days ago it was 88F but today the maximum was 55F windy and rain. So the first priority was to bring in some seasoned firewood. So I unhooked the firefighting unit from the tractor, put the pallet forks on and headed out in to the plantation to pick up a IBC of farwood.

I took the tractor and wood back to the shed and removed the top cover.

I took one of the splits and halved it and tested with my new moisture meter.

The highest reading I could find was 11.2% so I think we will be good and warm this winter. The first 3 splits are now burning nicely.

Haven't seen any leaves appearing yet on the flip side but I will be moving some wood away from the house soon. Enjoy the burn season, I have.

Is that percentage in metric?? Keep the matches far away from that stuff!

Nice setup! I really want to get my dad on a system like that. Gotta find a bunch of those totes or build some racks he can move with the tractor.

Well technically yes, unfortunately one of my neighbours houses burned down 2 weeks ago, luckily they woke to the sound of their dog scratching at the door and barking, they got out OK with their dog, they saved 2 cars but lost everything else.

As far as bushfires go we were lucky this year, no really bad ones nearby. Probably the worst was started by 2 blokes cutting firewood on a total fire ban day. The chainsaw sparked the fire, and as its forbidden to use a chainsaw on fire ban days here they have to pay for the damages and firefighting effort. 11 water bombing aircraft and multiple fire trucks were involved.

That is excellent Leoht, sounds like you are ready for your burning season. It sure does pay to be organized and ready to go.
