You'd be in luck if it is honey locust. A pretty great firewood in all regards. Gives the stacks some nice color too.

If it’s better than black locust, Id be all over that. Although the grain makes for really nice looking boards. Orangish brown if the pics of honey Locust grain have been correct. Good score!

26.5 m/btu per ton! I like Honey locust as firewood. Burn a fair amount.

I haven’t been impressed with the thornless variety,(lots of ash) I wonder if the thorny variety is better.

The stuff I usually get is medium thorny to light. I usually mix it in with walnut or maple. I guess I don't pay much attention to ash amounts, I just empty the pan every other day regardless of what I've been burning.

That may be the difference, I typically empty ash rarely.(BK has a deep belly).

Looks like a deciduous tree... hard wood. They are going to drop it and cut it? I would be all over that no matter what it is. Get it first and ask questions later, before someone else nabs it. Its good firewood.

Looks like a beauty! I wish black locust grew like that - I really like the lumber but finding a good straight log of any length is rare. Honey locust takes a much nicer form.

Awesome score! You know, true story, I’ll be coming thru S PA next Thursday with my trailer... ;) And saws... :saw::saw:

Probably honey locust, but... insufficient evidence for definitive identification. Would need an entire, intact leaf.

In that case, definitive "scientifically sound" I.D. would require a razor cut of the end grain . Whatever, it's probably locust and definitely great firewood.
