image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg the crankshaft on my Stihl 441 sheared off while cutting some 18" maple.

Through a little research it seems to be a pretty complicated and expensive repair?!!

Is this something I sould attempt on my own (I can repair fuel lines, tune a carb, but never attempted an internal repair) or what should I expect to pay to get it fixed? Thanks in advance!

Replacing crankshaft is the most difficult repair...total disassembly and split the case, bearings and seals. Bet a shop would charge $200+. May be a good time to learn - lots of youtube instructions.

Ouch, that is going to require a full tear down. How low do you run your depth gauges?

Not lower than specs. I baught it used from a rental store. Wondering if renters jamed the chain break on? Would that cause crankshaft failure?

Usually a broken crank is from depth gauges that are too low or a chain that is grabby/ chatters. With it being a rental saw who knows how it was used.

A 441 isn't the simplest saw to tear down. If you do it yourself, take lots of pics as you disassemble so you have a reference when you put it back together.

I checked at one dealer and they want $345 just for parts:hair:!!

$100 for a used one sounds good, to bad the one one the link is sold out!

Anybody have thoughts on an after market crankshaft?

Most are a little uneasy about recommending AM parts. Especially a crank. But a member from OPE has been milling with a 460 or 660 with a Raisman crank for a few years with no issues.

Ok, buying a new 441 crankshaft from dealer for $350 is out of the question.

I have a guy that I've traded and purchesed saws from that does good work that will repair the saw for a reasonable price if we can find a good used crank, or reliable after market.

All leads on used or quality after market would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks FHC

Kevin that is a Raisman crank in my 440. Mastermind recommended it after he built the saw you mentioned.

thanks guys! I'm currently checking with my repair guy to see if he can make it work. I hope it works out! I don't have any need for a nice 441 parts saw!
