5ft DBH cottonwood removal from today. Finally got time to come pick this thing off and it went fantastic besides the wind picking up and scaring the hair off my neck. It's a 3 foot bar. Got my little fleet out with me today for some fun. No videos or other pictures was a 1 man operation. Thanks Brock. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Yeah it definitely was a beast and yeah it was close to the guest house. The main house was just to the left of the picture maybe 50 feet. The neighbors house was just to the right and it was even closer about 15 feet from the stump. I have some other pictures but really didn't take many. Yeah it was. Thanks Haha none of those here. No it was blowing in the complete opposite direction. I jacked it up on wedges but it was pretty sketchy with the wind. It had a pretty heavy limb in my favor which probably saved me. Also thanks.
Big tree and good to drop it given its location. hey Backwoods Savage ..........time to put up a pic of that cottonwood you have!
Nice one there! Was the heart rotten on that sucker? All the cottonwood over here are dying from termites or ants I'm not sure what they are.
Nice work! I like how your saws ride in the truck! Is that a 2x4 or a 4x4? Does it work good to keep the saws from moving around? I hate when the saws move all over! I think they get beat up more in the truck than they do from being used!
Thanks yeah it is pretty annoying them sliding back and forth getting all beat up. I picked it up off of watching buckin Billy Ray. He uses a log split vertically so the bottom is flat and that seems to work better. I just used this old 4x4 and it seems to reduce sliding while riding in the back of the truck. Better than Nothing! Thanks for the feedback.
May I ask what you'll be doing with the wood? I'm always curious what a guy does with wood that big let alone how do you move it?
Thanks we have kind of a self-sufficient household. Beats paying bills every month. I'll probably cut them into 1' x 1' pieces or until I can lift it into my truck. That stuff is really hard to split so I just noodle it after I get it into rounds and then split it after that. I wish I could mill them I have always been interested in doing that. But yeah I'm just going to use it for firewood, should have a good few cords there.
I find that cottonwood is pretty much garbage to burn, but if it's free close and easy I'll burn anything. Looks like you'll have shoulder season wood for years to come!! Cottonwood is extremely hard when dried out. Makes for a wicked nice bench! We had some milled a couple years ago, beautiful stuff, I'll see if I can't find some pictures .
