    Hello

The washer and dryer like most homes was just in the corner of the basement. I am finally getting a chance to fix it up a bit. As the years went by the washer and dryer don't even match up! See 1st pic.

So we just put in 2 walls and a door. Then moved the washer and dryer to the new wall. New wall is 2x6" with the metal lint vent and washer water and drain built in.

I sold the old dryer on CL with the control in the back and got the matching LG dryer with the controls in front so we could put in a nice folding counter on top. We used 2 metal pipes in the front center for super support. We can sit on it even. LOL

Now on the wall above is there anything for storing linens? Most cabinets and shelves are a max 12" deep. It seems like it might be better to have something 15 to 20 inches deep? Any suggestions on this?
The new window we put in still has to shed some light. :)

I can't see why you couldn't put larger shelves up over the counter top. As long as you leave enough room between the bottom shelf and the counter top to work.
I'd be careful when putting your shelves in near where you put the 4" dryer vent, theres not much room left in that 2x6 structurally for any serious weight.
Your laundry room looks very nice finished

The only thing I would've done different is built a pedestal. Man I hate bending over more then I have to... Oh wait, that's why she does the laundry. :D

If you want to have a cabinet up there and want it deeper you could use a lower cabinet (without a drawer) and remove the toe kick. That'll get you 24". Might lose some things on the top shelf though being that deep.

I mentioned this elsewhere Don, but how do you plan to clean the dryer vent.
    Curious, is all.
I suggested a "sooteater" too.:DSeriously, I wonder if that would work.
    Oh, and nice job too.
Seems to me you could just make your own custom sized uppers to fit whatever you plan to store there.
    That's what I'd do. YMMV
I'm also curious where you got the premade counter. Never seen one with that sort of backsplash/shelf doohicky. Pretty cool.
    Did you fab that?

    Very nice.
Well Don, there's your answer to my question.
    Thanks Pyroholic.

    Hi Dave

The dryer vent should be easy to clean since it has no ribs. It is also angled down on the horizintal.
I like the idea of a base cabinet, I will see.

The counter is just regular inexpensive linear kitchen counter I got at Home Depot. Since the washer and dryer are deeper than the counter, we bought 2 and cut and additional piece for the back shelf and covered the knee wall shelf as well. This way if detergent is spilled on the knee wall shelf it can be easily wiped up. Also the plumbing and wire holes are higher up and out of the way on the back shelf. :)

It looks nice Don. I can't let the wife see these pics. What did you use on the dryer vent joints? Some type of sealant or mastic? I like that they are sealed to each stud, that should prevent any separation.

I have heard of alot of washer flooding and we had a small leak once also.

As you can see in the pics, when we installed the toilet and sink I thought about a nice flooor drain!
    See pics below

The molding around the room is composite wood that willl not rot if it gets wet. The door to the room is metal with an aluminum threshold. :)

The pipe really overlaps and pushes together tight, but we also used construction adhesive to keep it from banging the 2x6" wooden studs. :)

Don, where's the vent stack? Out of sight?
Hopefully not missing. You seem to have thought of everything else, but I thought I'd ask in case you forgot it.

The 20' vent stack is that 3" solid copper pipe in the corner. LOL
My friend replaced it with PVC and got a big bonus when he took the copper to the metal salvage! ! !

How far away is the vent connection to the laundry waste trap? For dinner reason, I'm not following how they connect.

I bet the wife is happy about that room :)

Nice job Don. The Lint eater will handle that 90* easily. I have a 90* and 2 small 45*s in my vent and it handles it with ease. Being rigid vent is key to the lint eater working the best.

    Hi MePellet

The vent stack is in the back left corner and the laundry drain is in the back right wall. Not far since the room is small? However the drain is open so it does get the air needed to push the water through the trap.
