Sigh, I just feel so bad for this young lady. She lives across the lake from us on one of the 40 acre plots over there. Her beautiful dog went missing in January while they were on the bank of the lake. She kept upping the reward all the way to $1500, 1/2 the town was keeping an eye out for him. A horseback rider spotted him dead in a ditch yesterday.:(:( They had him cremated and found bullets in his ashes.

    Too bad.

Maybe he was doing something he shouldn't have been? Running deer will still result in a quick lead injection around here. Or maybe someone thought it was a white wolf? There was one by a buddy's house that was way too aggressive around people that was finally removed.

Probably neither of those, sucks that it had to happen.

A few decades back, I drove past a cousins house and his wife's cat was out on the highway....gave him a quick call so he could remove it before her morning walk. She would've been crushed.

Hope they are OK with the closure. Way too much worrying about missing pets without knowing what happened to them.

Sorry to hear. Beautiful dog. Too often some sicko gets their jollys shooting someone's family member.

I have spoken with folks who hunt who will admit in casual conversation that they shoot any dog they see in the woods. Simply a matter of fact. These folks don't seem like wackos and they feel what they are doing is justified. Think of it, they come on your land to hunt, then shoot your dog. Took a while, but I have taught my dogs not to go out of our yard unless they are with one of us.
I have seen many hunters staring at our dogs as our dogs barked at them while they were parked at the end of our driveway, (dead end road). So now we post the property as no hunting. Sorry but my dogs mean more to me than their hunting does. Last fall, one guy had one of his cows shot, another had one of his goats shot. Numbers of hunters is way down from a few years back. More and more property being posted as no hunting.

yooperdave Boomstick savemoney , not sure we'll ever know what really happened. I am on the south side of the lake, she is on the north side. Directly south of us, literally our fenceline is BLM land and there is often hunters/target shooters/scoping in guns etc. I can see that happening on the open BLM, but not on the side she lives on, it's all private property. In Jan 2014 we learned our lesson about the snow drifts here, darling Blondie literally walked up a snow drift and over the shed, we thought for sure we lost her for good. 5 days of searching, -17* at night and I was overwhelmed with ranchers and homeowners calling (we put lost posters everywhere-everywhere) to say they saw her, tried to catch her, but told us the last location.

I'll update when I find out the details of where he was found, but I am leaning towards Dave's thought on they thought it was a white wolf. I had convinced myself someone took that beautiful cute dog to keep for their own, so sad I was wrong.

Creepy, I saved this pic last year to show WWW because we were talking about his great grandfather shooting wolves and coyotes in California in the early 1900's.

I know in some areas wolves are protected.
I also don't shoot what looks to be something. I shoot what I know is something.
I'm not against shooting wolves as I have a major coyote problem. But trying to justify it looked like a wolf is a weak argument and irresponsible.
I had a trapper heavily ticketed for setting traps this spring. Ive sadly built aa healthy working relationship with local conservation law enforcement. The same guy also admitted he knew I bring my dogs in the area. People, not just hunters have a serious entitlement problem especially on private property "around here".

We kinda assumed it was fresh road kill, did not mean to mislead you:) Just wanted to get you a better pic since the other pic wasn't very good. Idk, we have seen giant Goldens going after smaller antelope, but, this was near road... How are your furry kids Lucy ?

I've had to make it pretty clear in our area that i shoot before i ask questions. And you can see me walking around with my gun on like in the old west:rootintootin:, originally because we had a lot of wild pigs here. My neighbors all know that where our dogs are concerned i have zero tolerance.
On the other hand i'm putting up a new fence for our newcomers. Neo the pup is way too ambitious where coyotes are concerned, Max knows better he won't tango with them and little Teddy with his bad legs can't but i'm afraid that he'll end up hurt because he can't get away. They are usually on our property but occasionally they go up the hill and across the street and that is Rancher territory. I know several there who shoot any dog even if it just harmlessly crosses the field. The boys don't like staying in the smaller area around the cabin where Lucy and Pippa are. Set poles and put up gates last weekend for 300 feet of goat fence that should give them some room when i'm not there and at night.
Oh and I think Neo never heard a Bullfrog before, he's been driving me crazy barking at it not understanding what that weird noise is.:hair:

I was just kidding. I have never seen a Golden but the bald Eagles are here quite a bit. Unfortunately my eye sight is getting to where i cant see them in the sky any more unless they are pretty low.
The kids are ok. Lucy feels great and looks good but her problems are the same, still cooking for her but don't know how to keep that up financially. Max has quit jumping fences since he got hung up in it, got badly hurt no bones but pulled ligaments and has a hard time running. He is a tough boy though, since Neo came he's trying to keep up with that pup. The fencing and a little more peace will be good for him. Teddy needs that too, he is so desperate not to be left behind he follows the big boys everywhere no matter how hard that is on him. Other than that they are all pretty sweet guys. Neo learned that messing with Pippa doesn't mean you win just because you are bigger, she is a crazy whirlwind.
I put some cameras up so i can see what they are up to when i go upstairs into the loft. Saves me a lot of ladder climbing.
How are your kids, all back to their normal selves?

Hi, yes, thankfully mine are all back to normal if you can call it that haha. Blondie thinks she's a cat (raised and dominated by our previous seal point Siamese) and our new precious kitten thinks he's a dog- or human, either way, they are thankfully all good. Would you give me a run down of your furry kids? 5 dogs? I hear you on the special food, I buy commercial dog food "hydrolyzed" stuff for Blondie's ears and Blackie chews the fur off his feet with the more affordable foods, I can't imagine what it costs to buy and cook her special diet. You know, there are two other members here, one has over 10 foster dogs and who knows how many he's taken in over the years, and the other runs a small farm and takes in rescues. They are north east US but I can look them up if your interested.

Wildwest, i just realized that i drove through Laramie twice. We lived in Seattle for a few years and took that route through the winter, what a drive. Unfortunately no cell phones in those days so no pictures.

How cool!! Desolate then mountains then desolate again out here. Ya, nice funky little town, stuck in the older slower paced days, but easy to get used to:)

All in all we have 9 dogs now. Complete madness. Our two old girls are still with my husband in the city. The other 7 are out here with me in the woods. If that keeps up i may need help to find homes for more newcomers.
I tried the hydrolyzed diet with lucy, little that i liked the ingredients but i tried. It didn't work, she vomits it up and gets diarrhea. Cooking for a 100 lb dog is crazy plus all the supplements for her digestion around $390 a month last i checked. Just bought more Slippery Elm today 5oz for $42. She gets a teaspoon as a tea mix in her food every other day.

Desolate to me means peace and slower pace of life tranquility. I'd love it. We moved as far out as we could afford to with hubby still working but it's not bad here.
The trip through the passes was crazy we had chains on the cars and the moving van but still. I was surprised they hadn't closed some of the passes.

Sorry for your friends loss, that is very upsetting. Not trying to be critical and not sure that it would have helped, but I just don't understand why people who let their dogs roam don't invest in a tracking system.

It was never that way 30 yrs ago. but now, things are much different. I bought an electric fence system for my dogs. I have spent several hundred dollars on keeping it working over the past 9 years, but it has proven to be worth it. Never used to look at the issue when younger. Never looked much at what dog food I bought either, but now, I am very very careful about what offer my dogs or to what I will allow them to be exposed to. I don't look at it as pampering, it is being responsible. I tell folks if you can't afford or being willing to pay for the food and health care of a dog, then don't get one. Get your dog "fix" by visiting a shelter and walking the dogs there.
