There's a place in Manchester NH, Puratains Backroom. They make the most incredible mud slides....2 drink limit on those! No mancard loss for them. It's a good place to possibly run into Adam Sandler if he's in town too.

We knew after the first big snow storm in March out east that they would pay dearly with mud. Tain't over with yet. Fortunately our woods is drying up nicely. However, we still have the spring rains to go through.

Just started raining her around 4 today and a lot of water is running off. There is still frost in the ground and the top few inches are really slick. It is going to be some time before ground dries out around here.

Still have some frost here but not a lot. Got some rain overnight and a bit more coming for this morning but should be over by noon. Forecast doesn't look too bad right now but cooling off again by the weekend. Typical for us to be cold on Easter Sunday.

Thursday is supposed to hit 72 degrees here! The kids are on spring break, and the wife is going to take them over to Williamsburg to Busch Gardens. Far cry from last week’s 10” of snow that blew in..

We got about a quarter inch of rain yesterday but are expecting temps close to 50 today with partly cloudy skies and up to 60 tomorrow. Maybe the snow and ice in my yard will be gone by Sunday.

Yup we have too much snow left for sure. Ordered a couple Berkshire piglets a month ago when there was no snow...had to clear a path to install the fence. Use a hammer drill with a masonry bit to get the spikes to go in the frozen ground. The pig house is in this area and we didn’t want them trashing the fields. Barn is full anyway:).

Getting some freezing rain tonight then more rain later in the week. What isn’t snow is mud here so bring on summer!

Well I got my head out of my azz, found a little piece of dry ground and went back to it some this week.

My Grandfather was in the hospital with a guy from the county and asked why he moved toPortland. The guy said, "because I was tired of looking out my windown in June and seeing snow." He was not joking.

They don't call the Ice Caves up there Ice Caves for nothing...they have ice all year around.

I dislike mud season too. I want to get out there and do something in the nice weather, but it is just too muddy to get the tractors out, and that is 95% of what i use to do any amount of work.

I actually have some non-tractor work I can do. There is a 30 acre clearcut they just got done doing, and even though it is a clearcut, and they chipped all the wood, inevitably there are some small trees that are just too small to hit with the feller-buncher. I could go through that woodlot with chainsaw in hand and knock down the brush so so the area looks a little more refined. It is not really needed because when I start stumping, those small trees will come right out along with everything else. But it would look better until I can stump it.

I could also go through and cast winter rye all through the clearcut as well to make the area green. It would make the area look better, but would be a sizable cost even at 50 pounds of seed to the acre just for aesthetics, so I am not sure I will do that.

I'm running out of space to stage wood as it comes in. I've been processing ash beside my driveway, which I would rather not do, but it needs to happen, so I deal with the mess. I don't want to ruin my yard with the wheelbarrow, so I'm almost out of room there with a pile of splits. I'm carefully backing past the house and dropping oak to be processed later on the edge of my property, but once the snow out back melts completely that will have to stop.

    Stupid mud!

Yeah I don’t miss all the snow and cold in the county either. I do miss some spots in the summer though, like the DeBoullie region where those ice caves are. Have you ever been there? I’ve seen the ice in mid July on a really hot day and it was amazing to say the least. Caught a few nice trout there as well. Beautiful part of northern Maine. I miss the cooler weather in the summer too. I can’t take the heat and humidity well at all. It tends to really increase my pain levels, just like deep cold can.

    Yeah I have been there.

I like northern Maine, I have to get out of here sometimes as it is getting crowded here. LOL! (Like a town of 750 people, 25 square miles in size is really that crowded; 21 acres per person!)

I like going up to Church Hill Dam, or the Millinocket Region. I was just up that way a few weeks ago. Katie prefers Greenville...

I have never seen the old locomotives, so we are hoping to go up there this year with the kids. Maybe spend the night camping at Moosehead Lake, then go up there...or go up to Katadin Iron Works to see the Gorge. My Great Grandfather used to be a foreman for Great Northern Paper in that area before he was murdered. We think today logging is crazy, but I got his old diaries right up until the day he died and it was the same in 1898 in some ways. Unable to find good help, a paper mill breathing down his neck in not getting enough wood out, and trying to log year around since Katadin Iron Works had a railhead there and did not need snow or spring flood to move wood. The men that murdered him were engaged in Timber theft too, so not a lot has changed. (He lived in Lagrange)

Elephant Mountain is pretty neat too. We took the kids last year up to the B-52 site and it is something to behold. It gives you a great appreciation for our veterans and the true cost of the Cold War. I am not second guessing that war, but when you visit a site where so many servicemen lost their lives, it is a somber place.
