Ok so as most of you know, we had a “pretty good” snow storm over the weekend. Pretty good here is 5-8”. It was the wettest, heaviest snow I’ve ever seen. So guess what tree is down everywhere???? Yep Eric VW lol the Bradford pear. I wasn’t riding around looking for a scrounge rather I was just blowing off some Monday morning office steam by riding around town. I always go down into a few neighborhoods and see what’s going on. So as I’m down in one of my neighboring subdivisions, I caught a whiff of some motomix or some type of 2 stroke mix. I looked over through the woods on the next road over and yep you guessed it. An asplundh truck. I was like cha Ching!!! Like a shark that smells blood, I slid over to the unsuspecting tree men. As my luck would have it one of the men was walking back to the truck for a drink. I peered around him to see several long logs basking in the sun on the ground. I promptly turn on my charm and said, “hey man, do y’all need any help cleaning up those logs??” “I burn wood and wood Be happy to get them.” He says “ hang on one minute” he walks back to the truck and gets on his cell phone. By this time I didn’t know what he was gonna say lol. He comes back to my car and says “ I called the boss man and he says to take all you want.” I was like you dang right!!!! I said “ok, I’ll be back this afternoon and get all I can get and I’ll try to get it all!” So at 5 I clocked out and went home, got the 261 and log roller and headed off. I’m worn out because it was way more than expected. I ended up getting 2 full pickup loads on my 91 S10 AKA the woodragon. It’s all Bradford pear and i think that when I get it split it will be almost a cord. There are some huge rounds left at the site that I couldn’t get up. I’d say 200 pounds plus. I know this type tree is heavy and dense but burns HOT! This is a great addition to my growing 3 year plan. Just thought I’d share!
That is amazing, I like Bradford pear a lot! It splits so easy and burns great. That is a great find.
Are you the one pulling my leg now? I just split some two weeks ago and the splitter barely touched it and it popped.
Really? Do you wait for it to dry some or do you split it wet? The stuff I had was sitting out cut to length and stacked for a few months, maybe that's the difference along with a splitter?
No, I got a few big fresh cut rounds last summer, and split a couple in half right away, and the rest in February. They were miserable both times. I guess a splitter makes short work of them.
Nice hoarding instincts CHeath I was looking at the pics and was like "that's an old S-10 he's using". I had a '90 back in the day. Only brand new vehicle I've ever owned.
I'm not sure. the next time I get some I'll take an axe to a few rounds and see if there is a difference.
