-4°F atm . poplar in the stove , closed down for sleep time . Moon is about to rise. Lot of stars out . Calm .
Looks like it is supposed to finally warm up to 50 today. Hooray! It's about time. Yesterday was nice...until you got out in that cold wind.
I noticed yesterday that the house got quite warm with the stove going all day. We are getting close to the end of burning season. If I don’t keep the basement stove going all day it gets to be a rollercoaster ride. The foundation absorbs so much heat it isn’t worth lighting when I get home from work.
It was 20F a little earlier. Warming up now. Suppose to get to 45! Bubbling goo burning overnight and this morning. Time to clean the wood boiler and the exhaust pipe between it and chimney.
Sitting at -4 C or 24 F and some wind on top. Poplar in the stove. Should make it a few degrees above freezing today.
We let the stove go out today as the temperature finally hit 50 degrees. It is not supposed to freeze tonight but we'll have a light fire just to keep the dampness away. It is supposed to rain after midnight.
Supposed to get some slop tonight..rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow...that sort of changeover. Hope it rains, car and truck need a wash job!
It warmed up nice today! I went for a long walk outside. Nice! Currently about 34F and the boiler and exhaust pipe are now cleaned. I did a re-seal on the pipe this morning, and fired it back up late afternoon. Currently heating up nicely with Maple.
Says it might go to 28* tonight? Big warm up coming... 4yr tulip poplar lmao.. i need to make repairs to my small wood shed. Ive been slowly bringing that wood in, im down to the last two rows, and its seriously poplar i split and put in there when I first built the shed 4yrs ago. It lit so easy, but it put a whole new meaning to gopher wood... its hot though I know that!
After my night time burn last night I let mine go out this morning as well. No one was home for most of the day today and we went out for dinner after work and started a top down fire at around 7 pm. I have some larch that I just loaded, current temp is -1c/30f with a daytime high of 2c/35f with on again off again snow flurries. I cant melt much snow at these temps and forget about harvesting any firewood.
