Going over to my lady’s house was productive! She had trees cut down in June/July last year so the stuff was cut but not split so much. Took care of a bit of that today. We started a little while back when the weather started to get its act together. The trees were rotting in the middle a bit and tree slowly dying. The cutting crew told her this was time to get them down. I agree, lots of good wood and not so good. Her oldest son running the splitter here. He does well to help out. I know she’s getting frustrated with the way her yard looks so they pitch in. I had my daughter with me playing on the trampoline with my lady’s youngest son and we got a bit done but got awhile to go. Probably one of the biggest peeves of black locust is the bark as it soaked up so much rain. It comes off pretty easily when splitting but her son and I agreed that it smells like the dump. Straight grade A Garbage. The wood will be tried to be sold and some needs to be given to a guy who helped her cut the rounds.
Good work! It all takes time though. Yes, the high btu stuff, I keep all of it, even down to about 1.5-2" diameter stuff.
Locust bark makes good sheet mulch. I've got squares of it (as well as willow and pine bark, which also sheets off) around my lilac bushes at the edge of the yard because I tend to be a little hasty with the weedwhacker. Used some to edge Mrs Papi's flower beds, too. It won't stink when it's dry.
