....are low this year. I’ve seen a few but they are picked up faster than I’m able to reach out to them or have already processed someone else doing it. This winter was actually more this year because the cold came back and stuck around more than average. We’re seeing a daytime warm up but nights staying cold for a few days then it is to creep up. Snow fell last night in places.
Perhaps something is making people get after the wood a bit more these days?

Should I be worried? Highly doubt it. Having did the job last year with at least 3+ cord collected, I’m not likely heading for trouble too soon based on how much I burned this year since it really was a good trial period. For now makes me wonder if you folks are seeing the same things? Who pays attention to the Craigslist? I’ve done bit of both where it was neighbors/friends/ parents who took trees down and I got the share or CL so either way no stranger.

Even with all the storm damage, so far all I'm seeing is pine.
With all the snow in some places, there may not be a lot of cleaning up on residential palaces in the burbs yet.

I think that’s the problem if you could call it that...no storms of high powered nature yet for the PNW. Kind of interesting but that’s the trigger for more cut-downs. I’m good with the hardwoods. So I’m hope to find some Alder, that was some of the best wood for the most wonderful fire. Not too hot just perfectly middled out.

Seems to be about the same here, but my backyard is close to full (as if that's a thing) plus we have tons out at my partners acreage that has been dropped off or from storms last year. I would still run out for the right wood and if it's close by.

I look on CL, and it's been lighter traffic than typically.

I cut on my own wood lot, and my buddy's as well, but those lots are 15 miles away each way.

So I look for local scrounges when I find them close.
There's been abnormally low snow and winter storms, so that doesn't help. I've seen some possible scrounges recently, but there needs to be people to ask on those particular ones. It's not warm enough for people to be outside to ask yet.

I only look at Craigslist for entertainment. I contacted someone on there once, after someone else sent me the listing, and never got a response.
Lots of other ways to get firewood.

Definitely true with other sources! I wanted to try and figure the DNR permits but I’m not screaming for it at all. Lotsa cottonwood and Douglas being cut down for sure. You’re right about it being a bit of a spectacle: rounds the size of the door width and it’s been free and now people are starting to charge for it. I think they have reason to wait or wood in a spot where it’s not going anywhere. Often the wood is free since folks want it Gone ASAP. Works pretty well that way.

I’ve got a couple trees to come down at my parents too. Alders and probably a madrona or two. Spring break I’m likely to get the time.

I agree regarding Craigslist and free firewood/trees. I'm only a couple hours north of you. It's the worst I've ever seen since living in the PNW. I've also really noticed a huge drop in chainsaws for sale on CL just this past year. Not sure what's up...

You are about 40 muns south of me neighbor. I collect between hwy 9 and Mt Baker. Tons of wood got around 8 cords this year so far. You can go to the ranger station in Sedro Wolley and get a permit to cut in the Baker forest for $20

Alright then, something is up. Last year it was free-for-all. I wanted to make sure someone was noticing if I wasn’t. Thanks for the reply!!

I wood. Maybe the next time I’m running low I will seek out wood or it will seek me out.

Too much snow on the ground for much residential work to get done around here, which is where most of the CL material comes from. Right around May things should get rolling.

I think the relatively cold temperatures is what's holding it up around here. It's definitely not the snow.
