Not my saw, just sharpening it but this thing surprised me buckin some good sized hardwood. So light and fun.
Red oak and shagbark hickory. Ya it was cuttin real nice. That tree i was a little confused cus the wood was so white but i just split a few and its stinky and red. I got shagbark all over my property that saw had a little more trouble in that, but i made the rakers on it a little too hungry. Its got a safety chain too
I've been corrected on here before but around here we call that black oak. Rougher bark and a more pungent odor than red oak. If it smells like a steaming dog pile when you cut it it's black oak.
That makes sence because Like I said the bark was really thrown me off but yeah it stinks for sure. Thank you very much I’m going to cut some more right now. I was hand splitting it for a little workout and T 20” lengths it was splitting pretty nice. Have a good day
I bought a little Echo 490? a year or two ago and for iirc about $350 new. For smaller trees & limbing and the price, I'm impressed esp. with a "real" chain on it.
I think you are right...technically, it is black oak tree. But black oak is a species of red oak. Either way, it is good stuff.
Technically, there is a 'white oak' group and 'red oak' group. Red, Black, Scarlet, Pin, etc. are in the 'red oak group', but are all separate species - black oak is not a type of red oak - in the technical sense. Cheers!
Uh, ok. Does what you are saying make sense to you because it doesn't to me (but I am intellectually challenged)? "Black Oak is in the red oak group....black oak is not a type of red oak"
