Not a bad problem to have on the child nights, eh? You have your three good night all rolled into one! We hit 40 here today with strong sun, but a persistent spring wind. Did a good number on the snow pack. With a little luck, I may just make it on this year's wood without breaking into 18-19 supply. I can almost get to the ugly pile, which will help. The last of my hardwood stack is two year sugar maple and three year red oak. I'm finding hickory every so often and stashing it in the smoker pile.. Hickory is a rare bird around here.
That's the truth . Can't fight the wind !! If you can't put it to work for you, it's best avoided. I've fell lots of timber in a fair amount of wind. Its pretty nerve wracking. That is what cutting on the coast is like. If ya can't cut in the wind , you can't cut there. But , if it can be avoided , that's best.
This week we had heavy wet snow which took branches down around the county, then nice day which melted it all. A few inches of snow expected tomorrow. I went into the pasture and gathered up smaller sticks and dead branches that were dropped by the snow, loaded my Mule and Bannon trailer with enough for the weekend. My lean-to was getting near empty, and I don’t want to load it up now. It serves as my motorcycle carport in off season. Still going to burn until the temps stay in the 60’s.
Cooking some Fort Chiswell Red Maple courtesy of Shawn Curry, Barcroftb, TurboDiesel, DexterDay, BCPLLC, bobdog2o02, and of course the Hurricane walt. Will load up some 3 yo Black Locust for over night soon. Getting ready for the weather guessers 5”-10” tomorrow.
Me too. Just loaded the bottom full of maple and a big 12” oak round. 4-8” here. I’m hoping none. My Bradford pears are confused.
Well, when those Bradford pears split and hit the ground, you can add them to the stacks. About = to Cherry in BTU’s after about 2 year CSS’d.
You can us a wheelbarrow? Lucky you, I've got 6 to 8" of snow one one side of the yard that the sun hits. And the other side where the wood is that I need to work in has about 14" or so. No wheelbarrow for me for a while.
