If you recall, I had scored some willow oak. I was able to get some of the wood but then Christmas and New Year's and the weather prevented me from continuing the harvest. The day after New Year's Day I got sick, really sick, and was sick for the month of January. I recovered the first of February and was getting ready to head back to getting the wood. Sister 1 and I were down south visiting with Sister 4 when Sister 1 gets a call from Sister 2 that some men are cutting and hauling away my wood. Of course Sister 1 did not go out and say, "Hey, that wood is taken, get the f*** out of here; she is a conceal carry." Then again, I don't blame her for not confronting some strange men as it may not have been the smart thing to do, armed or not. The next day I loaded my kit and headed over. Not much left except the large butts they probably didn't have the saws to deal with. I managed to get a small load and had to buck short to lift them; well, not really lifting, rolling them. Some I left because of all the limbs I don't think my little 5 ton electric would have split. The majority of the wood I had left before getting sick was gone. To add insult to injury, the next day I could barely walk. Then the day after Valentine's Day I got sick again and had to deal with that for almost two weeks. The start to the New Year has not gone so great.

    Can't like that.

That is why I never leave wood where it is away from my house, or right by my buddy's house.

If it's out of sight, it's

So was the thief the new guy next door you eloquently greeted with complaints regarding felling trees over your line? Obviously they knew you were gone.

If this was from a wood scrounge on someone else's property, I fail to see how it was all your wood to begin with? Unless you had an agreement, deal, or exclusive rights to the wood? A wood scrounge is usually first come first served and the early bird gets the worm.

Yeah I had a good spot, and permission from the property owner , got a couple good loads out, but also had a cop stop and report a complaint that I was trespassing.
The other day I passed by on the way home from work and found a loaded pickup truck pulling out of the driveway, and noticed that the pile was much smaller.
It was old dead stuff, so I won't fight about it.
Then I get handed a bigger , better score, glad to know my father is looking out for my needs

Wow, that's a long time to be sick. Hope your getting stronger. Stealing people's stuff really pizzes me off but it's not worth getting shot over. Would have been nice to call the cops though. Especially if he made them unload and stack it for you.

Two words, Trail Camera! There a lot cheaper now and you'll definitely find out who's doing it!

Yeah, bit of a difference between 'stole my wood' and 'someone beat me to it'. Sucks either way though.

A neighbor had small amounts of wood disappearing from the stacks right besides his house. Figured it was kids and set up a trail cam. It was the crazy lady two houses down that does not burn wood. She didn't have any, he wasn't "using any of his", so she felt she was entitled to it. She had no means to use it, she just wanted it.

That would really irritate me and would definitely result in a confrontation. The only issue I've had with wood ending up "missing" was a few medium size rounds of ash that ended up back in the berm that another neighborhood backs up to and a couple kids play back there. Kinda looked like they were trying to screw boards into the ash logs to make a bench of some sort. It was easy to get annoyed at first (especially cus one of those houses has called the fire dept on me for having a bonfire, even though I've had a hundred of them) but then I remember the stuff I did when I was their age and just shrug it off. But adults stealing stuff is a different story!!

Can't understand why "your wood" was left on someone's else property.

By now, you should be real familiar with the old adage "He who hesitates is lost"....or she...or he...whatever!

Ya gotta get it done in a timely fashion, no one to blame but yourself?

maybe it was the person whose property it was on figuring you didn't want it as evidenced by the lack of motivation?

And, if it wasn't on someone else property, just why didn't your sister call the authorities?

    Lots of unanswered questions, again.

My woodlot is only 2 miles away, but whatever I cut off the pile I split and bring home. I have left the two man rounds as I'll use my splitter on those. Last time I was down there everything was fine, no thieves. KIMG0230.jpg

Sorry for the long delay on not returning to this post. OK, still not clear on what happened and the wood was given to me. The property owner that the trees were on gave the wood to me. I got sick and was out of commissioned as well as my sister; using her truck for hauling the wood. Whatever I caught you don't want to catch; two years ago I caught something similar that dragged on for three weeks, these are not your common colds. We informed the property owner that we were going to finish getting the wood and she said it was OK, come back when we were able, that the wood was our wood to get. Seems someone in the property owner's family decided to give the wood they did not own to some friends or something without even asking the property owner. The property owner was unaware of what was done until we called her and asked. The property owner doesn't live on the property. By then it was too late. I still consider that my wood was stolen because the property owner gave me the wood and had not rescinded the gift and did not give anyone else permission to offer the wood to friends or whatever. If I had not gotten sick and the weather had not been so lousy, the wood would have been gone ASAP.

I'd be frustrated, especially since it was due to being sick. But at this point there isn't much to do.

No, no use to worry over it now; stuff happens at times. What I hate is all the wet weather we have had; if not rain; lots of rain, then snow. This is the wettest winter I remember. The ground has not been dry in a long time. I want to get to work on those downed trees; both of the down chestnut oaks and red oak here and the trees at my sister's house. I have other plans for the summer but some of it will have to be spent cutting.
