Hi everybody! Beautiful day in VA. 46 degrees, and on Friday afternoon I was driving past a bunch of heavy machinery putting in drain pipe for a new commercial development. I happened to spy a bunch of logs piled up all by their lonesome, so I stopped and asked the foreman if they they were bound for the landfill could I have them. He said, “you can have as much as you want.” Music to my ears! I took a truck bed load home with me, and came back yesterday with my new 16’ trailer and loaded up. However, yesterday was terrible weather- wouldn’t stop raining. The deck boards on the trailer got real slippery and I fell on my backside a few times. Today, I hit it again and have done well. Like a dummy I left my scrench at home, and my day is over due to a thrown chain. I think it was a good load though, and there’s still a lot more on the ground for next weekend.
You’ve got that right! Talk about dead in the water- I was in a good rhythm, too. Cut up a log, drag the rounds onto the trailer....cut another log, rounds on the trailer, cut halfway into a round and “whoops!” That chain just hanging off the bar, mocking me. When I got home, I put an extra scrench in the clamshell case, next to a file, mallet and felling wedge.
It's just nice to see the bare ground, without a foot and half of snow on it. Good job on going get it VOLKEVIN
Update: the guys on the commercial site have been busy. I had grabbed everything they had put out, which filled 2 more trailers; and I just flew back into town from being gone all week. What’s that sitting there with my name on it? A smargasbord of logs!! I pulled in, changed out of my suit in the back seat and got to work. I filled the back of my truck and going to head to the house to drop off and hook up the trailer. There is a LOT here, and that couldn’t be a more welcome sight to see after a long week on the road.
It sure doesn’t! I was shocked when I saw that ginormous pile of logs. They obviously cleared a whole other section of land. Some of those logs are easy 36” in diameter and I may not even try since there are so many that are a pretty manageable size. I’m just grateful that the development company guys could care less about wood and said take all you want. The only thing that is a limiting factor is my work schedule, which gives a limited amount of time for collecting. But you can be assured I’m going to hoard as much as I can!
Should have left the suit on! That would make for some great pics! You never know it could become a whole new trend in lumber-sexual fashion! You should bring those fellas some beer!! Looks like they’ve been working hard they’re probably thirsty....
