Pretty cool, how much? The skidder could easily be made with a piece of pipe and some good rope or cable. Might just try that. Still plenty of branches from the ice storm.
Bad part it's pricey, but no higher that any others, 65 bucks where I ordered it. I may have found it cheaper if I looked around. The stihl pickaroon is 65 bucks and it don't have the cable. I did look around the house for something to make a pickaroon with, everything was too heavy. so I decided to just buy one. I have tendinitis in both my elbows right now from handling all those splits. The skidder part of it will get a workout when it gets here next week.
If it saves you time and effort, then the $65 isn't too bad. Looks like a great tool. And sturdy too.
A pickaroon is a very good tool to have. Easier on the the body all round. Your back will be thanking you for it in addition to your elbows. I personally don't have a need for the cable lasso part of it. No brush on tree service wood. For what little brush I do get from my yard I go through almost the exact same process as shown in the video, except I use twine and drag it to the curb for the town to pick up.
It's an interesting idea. Bet it would help. My back wouldn't stand much of the grab an pull dragging tho. I do use a short rope with a loop on one end a lot. I lay it on the ground and lay/toss small branches over it, choker the branches and then hook the rope to a 4" wide waist belt (old back brace) When I pull, all the load is on my hips and legs, not my back. If I flub with it and get the lengths right, it works pretty good.
… I always wondered how some of the Hoarders ended up with so many saws… buy em 3 at a time… … funny clip.
it came in today, won't be able to try it out for a couple days cause of heavy rain and storms. Seems well made.
I have a chit load of brush work to do on my property. Including a bunch I just made for myself clearing a road and improving the view from the camp. One of these would be handy for pulling that brush and moving wood. I am now thinking of getting one.
Yea I seriously have some tool envy right now! Please keep us updated on how well it works! how long is the handle to the tip of the pickaroon
