I posted a couple weeks ago about some birch?? I've been CSS recently, but couldn't get an exact ID on it. I was out today and CSS some more and took some pics. No it doesn't smell like wintergreen so I'm guessing it's not black birch like I was hoping!
Not sure if its birch... Birch has a pretty uniform color all the way through. Leaves seem small and tree seems small to be maturing with that bark on it but I’m leaving this for our experts to confirm. Usually with the bark you’d see the peeling too..
I doesn't look like Black Birch to me either. I'm not sure what it is, you guys have some different trees out there I've not seen. Someone will know. Scotty Overkill might have an inkling.
All the Birch's I know have a tight, smoother bark with more horizontal markings & texture than vertical, but it's amazing how the local terminology can change (for the same tree) depending on where you are.
Those twigs belong to them? I see maple buds. First few pics look like buds from a sugar maple, the larger pile of twigs look like red. That characteristic is how I tell them apart in winter.
Are these pics all from the same tree? Top pic looks like beech, middle pic and bottom pic look a lot like examples of red or black maple to me.....
Thanks for the help guys, sounds like silver maple. I will know for sure when the trees leaf out. Obviously, I'm not very good at many tree ID's, but I know what a silver maple leaf looks like.
