Pine clearing for the new garage build

Thanks Canadian border VT , I'm glad I did it that way we'll have room for more branches by the fireplace.

We have a contractor doing it except for a few things like tree removal, stump removal and we think we have enough sand on our property that we won't have to buy it. You don't have to answer but if you did a job of just dropping pine like what were doing, how much per tree would you charge.

 

Thanks yooperdave , I should've started about a week ago but I picked up a job testing recliners in our house!

 

That's an important job too. Sometimes we need a day of downtime, you know, to plan our attack!

 

$1700/1800 is a day rate for one crew here. 4 guys, one climber, one crane/bucket truck , a bobcat, a chipper and truck. CODB here is nuts.

 

We have a section of the property that was cleared 60 years ago and it's predominately pine like that, a pine grove if you will, and the trees are all about the same size as there and looks similar.

 

We had a late start today so we only put one on the ground but the area is all cleaned up ready for another felling.

We have 378 hours on the Mahindra 4540, I think it goes back to the dealer for a checkup at 500 hours.

 

Tomorrow number one will come toward number two and later tomorrow or Monday number two will go toward
where one was.

We have some pine rounds on the ground just below number one so I'll need to clean that up.

 

I'm sure you already thought about it, but get rid of all the trees within striking distance that look questionable for the next few decades.....

I did this at the cottage and was sure glad to get rid of a mature large aspen....that had rot going on about 30-35 feet up in it!

 

We're getting there, I just wish we had more room where I could drag the logs to a different work area with the tractor.

yooperdave , once we get the pines down where the garage is going a bunch more in striking distance will come down. The original plan is to get the pines down where the pad will go and some on the east,west and the south of the garage, we'll see what's left that will need to come down.

The good thing about getting the old trees down will be the new trees that will grow or get planted, this area is on the northside of our house so it gets plenty of sun.

I'm thinking that we'll be taking down close to 30 pine trees.

 

Today was the last day for 10 percent off coupon so we headed to town for dog food and a few other things. Once we got back it was time to plow both driveways of the snow we received overnight, after that I came in for lunch and a coffee and then took a seat in the recliner........when I woke up it was 4:30 so nothing for tree work was done today.

With 4-8 inches of snow forecast starting tomorrow night, I'm not sure if I'll get a tree down before the snow hits or burn what's left by the fireplace.

I did grab two more d-shackles and a few extra snap rings so I could fix our second snatch block, we can double our pulling power if needed. I almost bought a larger and longer cable but didn't, but if we need it we'll run back in.

 

I think our low is 19 so it won't be that bad, the first trees I cut for this job are still on the ground in rounds so I might clean that up and then burn the branches from the other day.
