Thx, appreciate the clarification. I actually sold off ROW rights this past year for a new gas line project. Only goes across .75 acres of land, but they paid all right for the usage, and paid market value for all tree's to be cut down, and I get to keep the tree's as well. The entire project is on hold due to NY DEC restrictions at the moment. I didn't figure it's any big deal as they already have an existing pipeline, and would just be expanding the existing ROW. Kinda bummed about the delays, they were gonna plant some nice alfalfa and deer browse on the new line.
About a mile behind my house there is a camp with 6 acres and they wanted electricity. Their driveway though goes around my land and onto another person's land. Like most people, they first wanted to bring the power up their driveway even though it was longer, but that landowner (quite silly) said no. It would have made his land so much more valuable...some else paying to put power across it! So they asked my Grandfather and it took him about 3 seconds to say yes...but that he wanted the wood. The powerline people did ruin it because they slashed it all up so even the softwood had to be burned as firewood and not delivered to the paper mills, but it has worked for us. Should my daughters ever want house lots, they have power going right out into the middle of the woods so they just need to build driveways to them, and I have a gravel pit!
Then you would be able to take out an entire herd of deer as well as BBQ them with a single shot.......
I just paid for some just so I could get it stacked to get a jump on next year or the 3 year plan so to speak. It was $150 a cord.
I don't know why any reputable firewood dealer would ever cut prices. If he has a quality product at an already reasonable price, he should have steady customers to keep him as busy as he wants to. If I could find firewood that cheap, I would buy up every possible stick I could and they resell it next season at MY price. This year I added more customers and ended up buying cut/split/seasoned wood for $80 less a cord than I sell it for. I ended up buying close to 30 cords off him and just delivered it at my price. I am currently looking for more guys willing to make similar connections with.
Wow those prices are wild! Only because its Backwoods Savage, I am convinced it is a real cord not a Face cord sort of deal. At those prices I would definitely be buying! Our area prices are or about $235 a cord, not dried, split usually too large and delivery extra for a mix of hardwood.
Well, to be honest it is $40 and marked as a cord but that is the lack of mentality around this area. They think it is a cord but it is only a face cord. So, multiply that by 3 and you get $120. But maybe that changed when they came out with new math. I'm from the old school.
I'm gonna guess both sellers needed the cash. When you're broke living from paycheck to paycheck or stipend to stipend, wherever a pittance comes from you don't have the means to be investing in commodities.
For what is the most common pile of wood bought here: Doug Fir goes for anywhere around 225-250 dry for a full cord or 100-150 fresh cut to couple months stacked. Whats seen is the truck loads often when I’m looking for free wood. Right now I’m just looking for the sake of whats in the backyard. I gave wood away these recent two weeks. Definitely overstocked and having one last stack to pick from Id rather give it away than sell.
Sometimes a smaller load of wood is more appealing in terms of price so you could take the small pile for 40, facecord as Dennis says and load that into a car/suv. Its not a super efficient system but what it does do is allows you to still get ahold of wood for under 100 dollars at a time. Some just don’t have the cash around...
Neither one is broke. One has sold firewood for a long time and the other, I think, is a young lad that can't find work so trying to be like his neighbor and sell wood. The other ones I can't comment on.
The lowest price for a full cord here (logging truck-with 100" lengths) is still $100 a cord. Hope to get a load this spring after road restrictions are lifted.
Same as most I’m paying 110 a cord for log length have seen cut split and “seasond”for 300! But for 125 id be a buyer.
If I still had my wood burner installed and that deal was around here, you wouldn't be wondering where it would go. It would be sitting in my back yard! At that price, I would be doing your 3 yr plan plus a few more. heck of deal that seems.
Most prices around here range from $65-$120 a face cord! They also usually state “seasoned hardwood” which judging by the pictures you see ends up being fairly freshly split random species in a big heap sitting on the ground. That said there is still some of the guys that have actually well seasoned good stuff. The other going rate is around $45 a face cord, but this is in full ~18 -20 face cord green log truck loads averaging $1000. Going this route you have to css all yourself. As far as price wars you’ll see the prices I stated earlier range all over between neighbors while driving down the same stretch of road.
Yup, $65 is about the lowest for a face cord of split delivered wood here also. Occasionally a bit less, but not often.
