I got pizzed off picking up large rounds so I bought a BIG set of hydraulic "tongs". It may have been a knee jerk reaction.
Welcome to the club SelectiveHarvest . Nice to meet you! You'll like this site there's a lot of good people here.
Welcome to the forum SelectiveHarvest Yes, I'd say that grapple is a bit large for the tractor but I'll also bet it works well.
I didn't either lol I put it up because it shows a few different brands of the tongs , belts/holsters and a brief demo on how he uses them .
There isn't even any dirt on the tires or step! The tops of your tires, the steps, nothing has dirt on it! But it sure looks better above ground, here is what mine looked like last Tuesday evening.
Here's a good vid of the bigger log tongs in use That's the size wood I use mine on , not made for moving 40" oak .
I also have them husky ones. Very nice tool. Good purchase. I want to get one of the simply hook ones too though for rolling logs over.
And that there is an Oliver! NICE. Big big fan of the "other" green tractor. (I have a 550). What is that one? 50 series something? 1550?
Can't get anything better than this. I'm thinking ours has a 30" handle but you can also get them with a 36" if necessary. Bigger logs though require a cant hook.
Btdt ! Great vid! I like his sleigh ! Very similar to one a guy I worked for in Salcha made. Same principle anyway . Jerry(guy I worked for) just down sized a old horse drawn loggin sleigh. He did have a neat stake setup tho. Could lift the stakes up and pivot them down and use them for loading ramps. Then pivot them up to vertical and push them down and they became stakes. By running ropes under a big log we could easily load saw logs onto the sleigh. With firewood size poles we would put 2/3rd cord on . with the trail broke in and firm. He used Yamaha Bravo's. We would get beattle killed white spruce off little islands along the Tannana River . Sled them up off the river onto The Old Valdez Trail and back to his place or mine. Biggest danger, other than his method of timber falling was breaking thru the ice on the Tannana River. An actual Serious concern. He always used a pickaroon, I used a pulp hook. But a set of hand tongs would have worked Very well !! Possibly better than either. As I remember we cut the firewood 12 -16' long. Tongs and a hook would have been just right. This snogo and sled is my 440 Arctic Cat Panther and a sled I made. I've got 4 skis from modern snogo's that I want to use to build a sleigh from.
