Okay. Then you have many positive attributes going for you..

    Problem solving ability. Check.
    Mechanical knowledge. Check.
    Creativity. Check.
    Stick-to-it-iveness. Check.
    Common sense. Check.
    Work ethic. Check.

You will figure it out. And all will be well for you and yours, our friend. Sleep well.

You sound like the "go to guy" and I'm thinking it'll continue. Boss will promote his business before you and your family.

Back when I was in my 50's, I made a conscious decision to put family before job. Only regret was that I had not done it sooner.

    Good luck!

I had to replace a toilet bowl today at the farm house. First trip back to the house this winter. Well those single digit temps busted the bowl. I drain pipes but I have never put antifreeze in them and. Ever had a problem till this year. I have learned my lesson and will keep some antifreeze here to winterize the toilets when I leave them over the winter.

I got a new fangled rubber "better than wax" sealing ring. Well even without the spacer like it said the toilet was still like half an inch teetering around in the air. Learned my lesson with that. Had to go back the hour round trip to the store and get a wax ring. Should of done that the first time...cost half as much too.

I drain the pipes but last year or 2 years ago (I don't remember now) there was still some water in a low spot and it busted the pipes up pretty good when it froze. And of course it was not in just a spot of a straight run of pipe it was where like 3 pipes branch off and shattered it all. It's cpvc so it's easy to work with at least.

Lukem, you know it's OK to tell them "No" on occasion. It's good to do that every once in a while.
Remember, they only rent your time, they don't own you.
You are compensated for your knowledge and time spent in their benefit. When a conflict occurs, I side on the ones that truly matter- family. Work can deal with your absence, or not. Their call, but you can jump to another company if you choose.

lukem I recall you mentioning work and travel/hours demands before, might be worth looking into further.

Ah yeah, a few things off the -Honey Dew *- list today....
-Closed off the fence with new wire panels, should keep stray dogs out, and mine in.
-Bathroom lights, replaced the over-head for the shower and vanity lights, new LED fixtures. So much light I'm trying to wedge a blueprint table in there. Do business while doing business, 2 birds- 1 stone. :salute:

    This.

lukem Saying "no" more is very empowering. Your boss should respect you more by telling them that as well. Explain that you used to do a lot less traveling, and that the traveling has gotten to be a bit much recently.

I was just frustrated and needed to vent yesterday. I've been working on this TX project for a while and want to make sure everything works.

The tough part is there's only one of me on our team. We are being some new folks but it will take a while to get them up to speed.

I've already told my boss the ice is getting thin. He's a good guy in a bad spot right now, but he needs to do something to help me out. That conversation happens tomorrow.

    Off to work.

Caffeine in, breakfast in, and time to get ready to do some outside work. I will hold off on firing up the chainsaw and tractor until 10 for the neighbors on Sunday morning.

Yes, easy to work with but better if you keep them from freezing for sure. This reminds me of when wife and I went to AZ for a few winters. Dip water out of bowl, fill with RV antifreeze. Empty water lines and then blow them out, etc. Must winterize if not there.

For sure that is a good thing to do. More people should consider their neighbors and try to get along; that means respect.

Snow shoe potluck this afternoon. Think I'll go early and start a fire in the warming shack.

Same here. I'll run the saw cutting some "sticks" I have at home down to firewood lengths soon.

That reminds me, I need to bring home some pallets from work to make a crib jig to cut "sticks" down. It's a pita without one.
