CSS started at the exact age of 40, prior to that I had better than eagle vision and actually use to win money on bets because of my uncanny ability to see far and small. Joked the old timers about their vision and of course their response was "You Just Wait till you hit 40 !" and like magic following my 40th birthday I started the stretched arm routine to read print and it went downhill from there....

CHS well 38 years in the construction industry with the exception of a 5 year stint in the logging industry most of which was prior to the PPE movement and you guessed it I cant hear with a darn except strangely enough I can hear a lot better than my wife , cant explain it but if we want to continue to communicate we will have to surely learn sign language. The annoying part of it is the ringing of the ears tinnitus‎ sucks and had I known or my generation had known I would not be dealing with it.

DGAS growing monthly with this stupid job I have and old age I guess has to play a role as well.

    Life is Grand taint it

I developed an extreme case of DGAS when I started taking retirement payments.

Well, here I am putting my daughter to bed when I here this odd zapping sound. I look up and her humidifier has a fireball where the humidity is supposed to come out. It contained itself, but needless to say it has me uneasy, wondering what might have happened if we were asleep.

:faint: I think a Greater Power had you in there just to make sure that fire didn't amount to anything.

Wow, I hear all you young folks complaining about your aches and pains and poor eyesight. Many of you have a lot of time before you join the 70+ group. Don't beat up your bodies and maybe you can still move when you get that age. I go to the pool 3-4 times a week and swim for about 60-90 min. The person I swim with is 81. We both have health issues and more pill than we can count, but we are still going and going (esp to the head!)

My mother has had tinnitus for decades (she's nearly 80 now). She worked in an office as an engineer, although she did fly small aircraft - but they really aren't that loud. She never went to concerts or was around a lot of loud stuff; even as kids we had to stay quiet. She hears well, but the tinnitus has driven her nuts over the years (not literally ;)).

So your tinnitus may not be caused by what you think caused it - or maybe so.

Known people that didn't beat up their bodies and still ended up a mess from various issues. And yeah, I really did a number on my eyes when I was 5 Y/O - at that point my eyesight was 20/500 (No, that isn't a typo). My whole family has bad eyesight, I just hit the lottery with all the issues coming together.

So I say do what you enjoy - just do it with a modicum of safety in mind, especially other people's safety.

X3. Non stop ringing here too in both ears.

It doesnt bother me too much as I can ignore it but I cannot hear anyone talking softly. It does really suck when I am in the woods at a nice quiet spot and all I hear is the ringing instead of hearing nature

Funny thing is that I can hear some things very well-I can hear the air brakes of a trucking backing up to the dock or the dock door opening while my desk is at the other end of the building and several walls between me and the warehouse/dock

My oldest brother has it too and has not been around loud noises. I have been but still wonder if it is hereditary.

    Wow, Wonder what caused that?

I clean mine once in a blue moon, I've have found fur balls and fuzzies in it. Full intentions of cleaning it sooner, But its usually once its turned off in spring. Should be off here in a bit unless the cold chit heads back our way??

According to a certain woman I happen to be married to .. :picard: ...

if "Dumb Azz" was an Olympic Sport, I would have placed in the top 3 in the event.

    * I feel a "sudden onset" of DGAS here.. :picard:

Excellent research there STB ! DGAS is added to the list.

Well, Im not in my 70's.......upper 50's here, and the damage has been done.....you know, when you're young and indestructible.....see how many 94 lbs sacks of cement you can walk away with....4 was my record......and I scoffed at the old guys standing there shaking their heads. Wonder why I have back issues.

I take scrips for "high" blood pressure (without meds, its 120/80....God forbid!)......take a scrip for BPH.....those who have it know what it is. Ive been the same weight for 10 years....229 lbs (6'3"), but my young, runs 4 miles per day doctor tells me I am obese, because the chart tells me I am....and that I should run, or exercise more, when I'm not working all day and weekends. I explain to him that there just isn't time, I spend all day on my feet generally, pretty much out of gas by the end of the day, etc....they don't want to hear that. I guess I could sleep 4 hours per night and go to the gym to walk on a treadmill for an hour or two......I dont drink, never have smoked (ever!...not one!)
The beauty is, I am at the point where I don't have to prove myself anymore, I don't HAVE to do what the doc tells me......lately, Ive been a thorn in his side....he tells me I need to exercise more.....I look him in the eye and tell him...."not gonna happen...."

    I guess I am a bad patient.....

We've had that happen here a few times IHP, and it's never pleasant, that's for sure. Glad you were right there and everyone's o.k. Been replacing the warm mist humidifiers here at least once a season: our well water is loaded w/ calcium and iron.

looking at a tree in the back yard the other day we noticed.......

    20180226_153018.jpg 20180226_153040.jpg 20180226_153026.jpg

the woodpeckers have been busy trying to get EAB larvae. first I've seen on the property.

I already have all the firewood I need and generally cut the first year the tree fails. But now there's too much! 3 or 4 Black Birch about 16"MBH, and (as yet) unidentified 24" that I believe will not leaf out in the spring, and another 24" white ash that just died of old age. now this one likely will not survive..
