Just curious, what can’t you do that a bigger tractor would? I considered the higher HP also, but didn’t want the emissions and with everything but HP being the same 25 is enough for what I’ll be doing. I won’t be running much on the 3 pt that takes a lot of power besides the blower and I’ll just go slower. Weight is what I was concerned about more than anything.
I have the 42” forks and have never regretted not having longer ones, they would just be harder to navigate.
Tractor size is tough, I’d like a biggger one for moving wood and snow, but they are clumsy in the woods.
Our tractor has the emissions thing but it is not a problem and we don't expect it to be. However, we were warned to not run the tractor at idle and we don't. Generally I keep the engine above 1600 rpm and most times higher than that. It will go through a regeneration every now and then, seems like around 20-25 hours but you can keep on using it while it is going through it. There is a warning if the tractor is not running fast enough for the regen and it sounds like it isn't running quite right but it is not a problem. I would have liked a bit larger with a larger and stronger loader and a wider foot print. Yet, for power it has enough for what we need.
A friend at work advised me to get the quick attach bucket and forks, that was some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten. We have 22 acres and we are always doing something around here. The forks have paid for themselves many times over.
Yeah all the used ones around here were as much as new unless they’re all beat to pieces. I got mine at a grand under MSRP so I’m happy with that. It’ll outlast me and my kids I’m sure. That thing is rugged. Everything is heavy steel on it. The LandPride 66” looks like a toy in comparison when I saw them side by side and I like the stuff from LandPride. It’s mostly well built from what I’ve seen. The Kubota blower is out of Canada so I know it was designed for heavy snow. In southern Maine where I live we don’t get as much as the north does, but we still get a few 16-18” storms a year and sometimes it’s heavy snow. I like the idea of having the bucket on at the same time so I can just use that with a couple inches or if it’s too slushy. I could probably get by without a blower (don’t tell my wife!) but id be out there for quite awhile if we got a lot. I’m not that excited about it lol. My oldest daughter bought her first Ariens snowblower last fall and she still loves to see it snow. I felt the same way when I was 36 I guess. My son in law got one the year before and the newness wore off in the first big storm. I thought about a plow too, but it was as much as the blower and I don’t like the mess it leaves in the spring either. I’m with you!
Maina ordered it yet is because cabs are expensive. But if you get the hardtop from the factory. A lot of my friends are cutting plexiglass putting hinges and putting on their own cabs. A lot easier to do with the roof. Plus if you break a window on a cab it's like 900 bucks if you break a piece of plexiglass it's a piece of plexiglass in 10 minutes with a hinge. I believe it's fuelrod that has one here. Better for blowing I wish I'd done it.
That’s what I was thinking too. Too much money for a cab especially when I don’t want it at all any other time of year. I’m gonna go one winter without to see if I want it bad enough. Plexiglass was what I was thinking too. Be pretty easy and quick to take off again too if done right. I don’t care about fancy. Cabs really suck when you need to work on the tractor too IME.
Maina, I missed other question too.. I believe my loader is la852. Break out force over 3000 lbs. If only it was a quick attach it will be someday.. But unlike you, well seasoned and backwoods who have bought tractor they researched. I financed this one for an excavator friend in late 2006, who proceeded to go bankrupt in 2008 housing crash. Soo, no quick attach, 3rd function hydro, but got a great low hour kubota with woods box blade, rake and brush hog for 12,500. Good deal. Its a little big for what I need but it works and is paid for! As much as I think I would like upgrade I like payments done MORE! This probably explains why I have an 18 year old car and hard to imagine but my Kubota is 13 with 745 hours, good condition and still worth more than I paid. My welder buddy down street, when he get over shoulder surgery says he will weld my bucket up to be SSQA
It is an L4240. I like the 3 point forks better. With the loader on, I don't need a ballast to use the 3pt forks. I also have a top and tilt kit so I can level the pallet on uneven terrain. Also I feel the rear axle can handle the weight better. The majority of my wood is on 42x48 pallets. They seem to be the most popular size. My wood splitter came on the big pallet in the video. I have a few 42''x72'' pallets I may put wood on.
I really like your wood setup. I wish I could find some IBC totes cheap. I'm tired of trying to keep tarps on wood, and the tarps leak and let the wood get wet anyway.
I'd go with a heavier made set. You definitely won't have to worry about breaking them. Also if you ever get a bigger machine your forks will work.
I'm not sure if Plexiglass is a good idea. If you roll it, the plexi glass may cut you. One of these may not be bad. Tractor Covers, Cabs & Farm Equipment Enclosures | Cover My Tractor
I made them. Agri supply has a cheap set. I'm not sure what shipping would be. King kutter makes a set too.
Wow that is a deal. Too bad it had to come about the way it did but sounds like you’re not too upset about it. I bet it’ll outlast you no problem. The SSQA is an awful handy feature for sure. You’re fortunate to have a friend that will do that for you. I bet your tractor usage and your implement count will climb after that!
I’m too old to be getting a bigger machine trust me. The whole idea of the light weight set is to preserve lift capacity.
Like mentioned before, something with a tall enough back plate to protect the front end of the tractor from the possibility of a log rolling back or whatever. I was at an implement dealer the other day, nice fork attachments, cheaper 2' high back and a tad more 3' high back. Also make sure you can remove / adjust the forks if need be.
Maina, i contacted everything attachments to see if where i work would be within their free shipping area- to a commercial business with a loading dock. If so, id be happy to meet ya if you decided to do that.
