It was up to 29 today so I restocked the garage with wood. I got all my kindling and splits all in order for awhile and swept up a lot of the bark and dirt. Also dumped the big ash pail. It was a good day.

Hmm. I feel like thewoodlands. With his cherry last winter. Black locust and silver maple and boxelder. No worries next few years it will be black locust and ash. But I do have some CHERRY hopefully ready to go for next year.

Cherry going here, too. Temps right around freezing. Rained for a couple hours. Should be a fun ride to work in the morning. Very glad to have knocked a good 50 miles off my commute this year!

Red maple and cherry making heat this evening. Good low ash combination, I've found.

Sweet temps here earlier, even though it's windy now. Sitting at -9 C feels -16 C, or 16 F feels 4 F. Poplar idling along in the stove.

Wicked warm in NH this week!

Enough snow melted that a random pile of Cherry I got for free this past fall is uncovered...so I've been walking over to that and picking out of that pile to keep the boiler full...figure I'll keep the stuff stacked close for when the temps drop again (if they ever do!). Looks like we're in low-20s at night and low-mid 40s during the day for the foreseeable future here!

Yeah the old stuff is real good. Theres a bit of newer stuff thats good as well so I try to give the newer bands a listen, but being 46 I lean to the bands I grew up with. Ive been impressed how some of the 80s thrash bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Overkill and Exodus are still putting out real good technical thrash metal. Im watching die young on youtube by Black Sabbath sung by Dio at the moment. What a talent he was. I was lucky enough to see him perform on 3 occasions. I took my 16 year old daughter to see Metallica and GNR this summer, She loved them both but Metallica stood out as her most liked. She likes working out downstairs to fast metal. Its kinda interesting to hear her working out to some of the bands mentioned above and it still surprises me to hear someone else in my family playing Judas Priest and others in my house. She has added a bit of slayer to her work out music as well. Thats my girl!

We have Balsam Fir, sub alpine fir and doug fir (not a true fir). I have lots of doug fir and some sub alpine fir which is real light and kinda crummy but I do like having some for those quick in between burns. I agree with you that doug fir is a great firewood and I can even use it for overnight burns in my shoulder seasons when draft is a bit slower which allows me to save my denser larch for colder nights.

Yeah thats real cold for you. It must be kind of fun. As a kid I used to love when the cold weather visited me in Richmond BC. I was watching the Vancouver BC news and they were saying that they broke a record of -6c/21f some time in the last couple of days. In contrast we had -26c/-15f the other day. It amazes me how diverse BC is. I can see why so many people want to live in Vancouver as its arguably the best climate in Canada but I left. To much rain.

Vancouver Is would have been Awesome to turn into a clear cut back in the day. Like Southeast Alaska was . Nowadays, yuk, too many people !
Ain't got no bark left oner.
I'm not sure how long I'll be able to handle living in this small pole country of the Interior. I sure do miss making big stumps !

    Was minus 6 , at 9 pm. Now it's +1.
    Poplar in the stove.

For sure trees are smaller but doesn't that make the softer woods burn better up there than the same types of wood further south?

Still cloudy here like it has been. Damp, but above freezing. I like that.

I did cut just a little bit of wood this morning. Cool out there but still easy to work up a sweat.

Man, it just don't stop! We're at -2 C (about 30 F) right now and it's absolutely toasty in here. Still some chilly night temps ahead, but if the forecast holds, it will be a nice way to wrap up Feb.
