Winter is most definitely not over up here.. I woke up to 10 inches of new snow this morning, and am expecting the same Saturday night into Sunday morning...

Splitting, hauling, stacking.. all that is best done when it's under 50° imho. I like the 20-30° days personally for any outside work. I draw the line at single digits, typically.

Yep, still great snow in the upper half of the state. Better than the last number of years.

I believe my teenager would call this "throwing shade." :D

One of these years I'll stop thinking about tapping a few trees and actually do it. Too late this year to gather equipment and get after it.

Can an Apple tree be tapped?

Ahhh, the shade. Most of us were not alive then, but then again most of us will be around a bit longer into the 2000's.;)

Yes, you can tap apples, or other fruit trees, but don't do it if you want fruit.

Good advice. I have a couple crab apple trees, wonder how that syrup would be. Think it'd be safe to tap the trees on off years? I don't do any thinning or anything yet, so they generally produce every other year.

I came from the 'upper half' on Monday. The snow falling or on the ground ended just south of Eau Claire. All my cross country buddies were freaking out that the birkie was going to washed out again this year. Got lucky with the blizzard I drove through west of Hayward put down some freshy. It was pretty baked off prior to that. We had to go to Duluth to find some fresh powder for downhill at Spirit Mountain.

The Birkie is this weekend and the snow conditions should be great....

The snowmobile trails were open even before the 6" fell yesterday at my cottage in Tomahawk. Another 3-6" tomorrow. I'm trying to get up north next weekend again.

But yes, the fresh snow saved the Birkie.
