I keep a couple days worth close by and in the real cold days I have stacked in front of the wood box and had 3 or more.

Art I have to ask got any tips for that stove. mines a big moe and I have had the house about 2 years. its my main heat source. maybe 20 hours of electric baseboard used in that time. I know all stoves are different just wondering if you have any mods/quirks that seem to make it more efficient. ie firebrick on floor, baffle that sort of stuff.

I'd use your area there for a day's wood, for sure. Been doing it for years. We surround our stove at the cabin… the wood never gets even close to hot… just warm. I always make sure there's no small chips/pcs near the door.

    Jet,
My house has electric baseboard as well (I shut off the breakers for all of them about 25 years ago, and just use the stove.) As far as tips - replace the fire bricks when the crack. I haven't lined the bottom of the firebox with fire bricks yet (maybe someone else can chime in on how that might or might not help) If you have or can get a hold of the blower unit for the stove, that will help with getting the heat to where you want it - you can direct it with the two vents on top. If you can't find a blower, use a small box fan or rig up a computer fan ( see the right side of the mantle in the picture I posted yesterday). Other than that experiment with your dampers and keep your fire from smoldering.

Great pics of the stove and pup, by-the-way.
