I mainly use my 6 wt. for all fishing around here, it's fun when you get a nice bass on a popper! Now when you get a carp on the end watch out, normally will break off!

I bought an 8 wt for bass around here, but mostly end up catching crappie.
I would love to catch a northern on the fly, that would be fun!
    Anyone tie their own?

This guy has some cool videos.

Sorry if this is a thread hijack.

Think where you plan to fish most. Off a bridge, out of a boat, or on shore, lots of bushes around? Then decide how long a rod you will need based on that. I prefer open face reels, and 6 pound test line. Remember, no lead weights. Be sure to check the rules book. You don't want to get pinched by the game warden.
Around here the rules are very specific for the bait, time of year, and body of water. Most fish are tossed back in, some have their picture taken.
The river very close to me as sturgeon in it. Illegal to keep any of them. But there are several other fish in there that keep everyone busy. http://cybrary.fomb.org/kenfish/krfish.html

I have been known to tie a few. I learned early in my teenage years from my uncle in New Jersey. He was quite an accomplished outdoorsman.

I tie small trout nymph and mousquito larvae patterns all the way up to striped bass flies. I have a good supply and have not tied in a few years though.

I really like All Pro Rods and Shimano reels. I have had very good luck with them. Right now the Hercules All Pro is on sale for $79 and is a pretty good deal.
