Wow do these somersets burn hot, there like gold! I have burned all my other pellets and have a few bags of somersets that I was saving to try. Granted the temps are a heck of a lot warmer now then January and February, the heat is running me out of the house. On setting 2 the the flame is normally confined to the burn pot. With the somersets I have flames hitting the baffle on the lowest setting. Last night I was dying it was 78 degrees with the stove on 1, so I had to open the window for a couple hours waiting for the night time temp drops. I need to find a shoulder season pellet, cause somersets will have you running around in your underwear.
I had great results with the TimberHeats I got at Lowes as a shoulder season and "in-between" pellet. Wouldn't hesitate to get them again, if I needed any.
I spent a hour on the phone today on the hunt for pellets. Everyone is telling me trucks are coming in Friday, so I will see what I can get in. My results so far are somersets, not sure on lowes, and all the pellet houses are now charging 7.50 to 8.00 a bag, so they can keep them. This weekend is suppose to be warm so I will run the heat pump and save my last few bags for next weeks cold temps. I will see if I can find Timberheats. My local TSC has Lee Energy, but I read bad reviews on them. I sold the Wood Fibers I got last week. This coming season will be totally different, I am planning on building a outdoor enclosed storage area for pellets this summer. Thanks for the info Imacman I always appreciate your insight!
Lowes In Bloomfield Ct allowed a bunch of folks to get together and buy a trailer load. I imagine they had to prepay. There were 4 tons that weren't spoken for so that's how I ended up with one. I had never tried them before, if I had I would have bought them all. I have heard this happens at several Lowes and HD but my local stores have played dumb when I approached them.
Well I got 10 bags of lignetics hardwood pellets today, the green bag. Even though I was upset with quality control such as pellet length and dust, they burn hot. I got 10 bags for now. What i did not realize is they are 6.00 a bag, or 240 for a ton. So I should of bought a ton which is a heck of a lot cheaper. Oh well I do not feel good and was not thinking straight today.
Saw an ad on TV last night for the local farm supply store advertising pellets. Said they had multiple brands in stock, Energex, Lignetics, Canawick, Maine Choice. Went by there today and sure enough, they had a lot of pellets. I've been wanting to try the Canawick since they seem to be an unknown on here. Bought 2 bags, cost me $13.35. By the ton they're $279.50. Got talking to the guy that brought the bags out to me. He was telling me how he's been burning the Liggies (Green Label) and Maine Choice in his Harman Quadrafire. Anyway, I'll post the results of the Canawick in a few days.
If I was thinking straight, I would of just bought a ton since that was the cheaper way to go. Now off to Google a Harman Quadrafire, I may need to get me one of those stoves
