Going on year 7 with my OWB. Only "junk" wood is used to feed it and heat my house. This is all the by product of selling firewood. These are the nasty knots that won't split, cutoffs, partial rot, and the occasional pine I come across. About as free as wood gets plus I don't have to struggle to get rid of it.

It's probably more dense than the rest off the wood! It's kinda fun burning the shorts, chunks and unstackables! Nice set-up ! And the byproduct of your business is free heat in your home
Ok, now it makes total sense. I sell around 130 cords a year and lots of junk is generated in the process. Before I had my OWB, I had a hard time getting rid of all that junk wood. My mom's neighbor also sells firewood, about half of what I sell and last fall he paid for a dumpster so he could get it off his property.
My son runs a tree service, so firewood is not his major priority. Never the less he does sell some firewood. He formed a box with pallets into which he throws the cutoffs and etc. It sits next to the firewood. It is amazing how quickly those sell. People get them for open fire cookouts, bonfires, etc. We are located a few miles from a couple of public lakes. If he ever sets up his own outside burner, that might change.
